Phlebotomist

Location: Austin, TX (float role across the local area) |
Schedule: Full-time, on-site, M-F 8am to 5 pm (availability for other daytime hours may be needed) |

A healthcare services organization is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract position based in Austin, TX, with potential for permanent placement. This float role supports multiple locations in the Austin area and plays a key part in ensuring accurate specimen collection and patient care. The initial assignment is projected for 3 months, with potential for perm.

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy
• Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures, using appropriate containers and labeling to maintain specimen integrity
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department training
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Minimum of 1 year of experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• Clean driving record and reliable transportation
