MEDICAL TECHNICAL WRITER POSITION PURPOSE

The Medical Technical Writer is responsible for developing accurate, comprehensive, and compelling medical and claims documentation that supports patients in obtaining appropriate healthcare services, benefits, and approvals. This role translates complex medical information into clear, well-supported narratives and documentation for claims, durable medical equipment (DME), and Home Health Care (HHC) requests.

The Medical Technical Writer plays a critical role in supporting successful claim outcomes by reviewing medical records, identifying relevant conditions and supporting evidence, and ensuring documentation accurately reflects medical necessity. The role also promotes patient confidence and engagement through timely, professional, and compassionate communication with patients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare high-quality medical documentation: Draft clear, accurate, and persuasive Letters of Medical Necessity (LMNs), medical narratives, claims documentation, and other supporting materials in accordance with applicable requirements and organizational standards.

Manage a high-volume workload: Effectively prioritize and manage multiple claims and documentation requests while consistently producing approximately 50–60 letters per month and meeting established quality, productivity, and turnaround-time expectations.

Conduct comprehensive medical record reviews: Review patient records to identify relevant diagnoses, conditions, treatments, functional limitations, and other clinical information that may support HHC, DME, and claim requests.

Translate clinical information into compelling documentation: Apply knowledge of health sciences and relevant medical literature to develop well-supported documentation that clearly establishes medical necessity and addresses applicable claim or benefit requirements.

Support successful claim outcomes: Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with applicable program requirements to facilitate timely review and approval of claims, HHC services, DME, and other eligible benefits.

Advocate through accurate documentation: Ensure LMNs and supporting documentation appropriately capture all documented and eligible medical conditions and related needs, supporting the maximum allowable services, hours, and benefits consistent with medical necessity and applicable program guidelines.

Collaborate with stakeholders: Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, internal teams, and other stakeholders to obtain necessary information, resolve documentation gaps, and support successful claim progression.

Promote patient engagement and satisfaction: Provide timely, accurate, professional, and compassionate communication that helps patients understand the documentation process and maintain confidence throughout the claims process.
