Temporary Public Health Educator , Austin Animal Services; Pet Placement

About This Position

This position acts as a support position to the Community Cat Coordinator and reports to the Program Manager. They will help with oversight of volunteer operations for the Community Cat program, help with Spay‑Neuter‑Return (SNR)/Trap‑Neuter‑Return (TNR) placement pathways, help with coordinating collaboration with community partners for SNR/TNR operations, and will be responsible for admin tasks.

Under general supervision, assess health education needs of the community and prepare programs for presentation.

• Write informational reports.

• Refer citizens to appropriate agency or program.

• Develop and evaluate plans, criteria, etc. for variety of projects, program activities, etc.

• Speak as city representative before public groups.

• Conduct needs assessments.

• Evaluate programs for effectiveness and accomplishment of goals.

• Evaluate needs assessment data to determine course of action i.e. training, new program, etc.

• Plan and develop survey instruments, i.e. questionnaires, rating scales, etc., and methodology for use

• Develop and conduct public information and education programs.

• Design visual presentation materials.

• Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to health education, nursing or health related field, plus two (2) years of experience in a field related to health education.
• Related experience may substitute for education up to a max of four (4) years.

• Appropriate certifications as specified for the assignment.

• Bilingual (Spanish)
• Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers while communicating goals & plans to volunteers and community members.
• Demonstrated experience managing a large-scale volunteer program, include years of experience.
• Animal welfare program development and implementation experience, include years of experience.
• Extensive cat handling and care experience in a professional work setting, include years of experience.
