Senior Data Engineer; AI-First

This role will own our company Looker instance, data pipelines, and automations for business operations. But we're not hiring someone who occasionally uses Copilot or ChatGPT to assist their development. We're hiring someone who treats AI as their primary development tool.

You've spent years learning SQL optimization, pipeline architecture, and data modeling. You know when a dashboard is actually useful vs. just pretty. You understand what stakeholders need before they ask for it.

Those skills don't go away when AI writes the code. They become more valuable. AI can generate LookML but it can't decide what metrics actually matter. It can't build trust with operations & other non-technical teams. That's where you come in.

• You will build and maintain data infrastructure, Looker dashboards, ETL pipelines, automations that solve real problems across Sales, Finance, Data Science, Product, and Operations.
• You will create automations that multiply operations efficiency. You'll help identify opportunities and build the solutions.
• And you’ll partner with non-technical teams to translate their problems into data solutions and show & build what's possible.

• You're already working this way. AI coding tools aren't a curiosity for you. They're how you get things done.
• You'll have real impact. Small company, big data volumes across our subscriber channels, and a direct line to business outcomes. No layers between you and the problems.
• You'll move faster than you thought possible. AI handles implementation. You provide the judgment and architecture. Together, you'll ship what used to take teams months or years in much shorter timelines.

• Every engineer has either Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor Pro (company‑managed licenses)
• We use AI as agents for all tasks, not just as an autocomplete tool
• We've successfully deployed AI agents for product management and reporting
• We maintain shared prompt libraries (an internal Claude Code Plugin Marketplace) and context files to create a culture of compound engineering

• AI‑first workflow required. Daily use of Claude Code (preferred) or Codex. You know how to prompt effectively, manage context windows, build with security in mind, and know how to verify AI output against a spec. If you’re not already working this way, this isn’t the right fit.
• Deep Looker experience. LookML, dashboards, API integrations. You’ve built and maintained production Looker instances.
• Strong fundamentals. 5+ years in data engineering, analytics, or BI engineering. Python. Advanced SQL. AWS (Athena, Glue, Lambda, S3). Bachelor's or advanced degree in a technical field is a plus but not a requirement.
• High ownership. You find problems before they’re assigned. You ship without waiting for permission.
• Clear communication. You can explain technical tradeoffs to non‑technical stakeholders without condescension.
• Nice‑to‑haves: Jenkins, AWS Serverless, Terraform, adtech/martech experience.
