Job Description:
- The Jr Lab Technician will support hardware validation, board assembly, testing, and lab operations for silicon validation and related programs.
- This role involves assembling systems, performing functional testing, troubleshooting hardware issues, coordinating logistics, and maintaining lab infrastructure.
- The ideal candidate will have strong PC hardware knowledge, troubleshooting skills, and hands‑on lab experience in a fast‑paced technical environment.
Board Assembly And Functional Testing:
- Assemble and perform functional testing on newly designed and incoming boards, including installation of sockets, processors, heat sinks, and HDDs.
- Perform boot testing to ensure system functionality.
- Execute pass/fail testing as bandwidth allows.
- Track tested hardware status and deliver completed units locally.
- Use protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multi-meters to isolate and debug device and board‑level issues.
- Perform first‑level board debug and simple hardware repairs.
- Troubleshoot PC hardware compatibility issues.
- Locate voltage rails, signals, and components using schematics and board documentation.
- Support Silicon Validation teams with system setup and infrastructure for new and existing programs.
- Image HDDs with Windows or Linux operating systems and install required drivers or BIOS updates.
- Perform or coordinate lab equipment maintenance including thermal heads, chillers, scopes, and analyzer calibration.
- Maintain silicon validation lab environments and margin testing setups.
- Coordinate motherboard reworks and ASIC direct mount activities (internal and external).
- Create support tickets, communicate schedules, and provide status updates to stakeholders.
- Manage distribution of completed reworks to requestors.
- Coordinate global shipping and inventory logistics for boards, hardware, and ASICs.
- Support ordering and inventory control through the Semi Custom Purchasing Request (SPR) system.
Skills And Experience:
- Working knowledge of Windows operating systems;
Linux experience preferred. - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience in PC hardware troubleshooting and second‑level soldering.
- Technical expertise in motherboard architecture and computer system assembly.
- Working knowledge of PC architecture principles.
- Experience installing Windows and Linux operating systems, drivers, and flashing BIOS.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools such as multi-meters and oscilloscopes.
- Understanding of GDDR or LPDDR memory subsystems.
- Experience with bus signal integrity testing.
- Experience working with thermal heads, chillers, or thermal chambers.
- Familiarity with Allegro, Agile, and inventory control systems.
- Experience in electronic or semiconductor lab environments.
