This is a hybrid position, working three evenings onsite and one evening remote. The onsite vs. remote days are subject to change. This is a 4‑day × 10‑hour shift with three days onsite and one day remote. The position is security sensitive and subject to university guidelines and Texas Education Code
* 51.215, authorizing background checks for security‑sensitive positions. Travel is limited to training (e.g., conferences/courses).
The position is responsible for operating and monitoring computer systems and peripheral equipment within a command‑center environment inside University Data Centers. The goal is to ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of the data center.
Responsibilities- Monitor and control the operation of computer system consoles.
- Analyze and prioritize reported issues, escalating and coordinating resolution.
- Perform data hall tasks upon request (e.g., securing access to UDC Austin data centers, tier‑1 technical assistance for customers, escorting UT personnel and vendors, data‑center site checks).
- Receive and ship parts, supply equipment, and provide media‑destruction services for UDC customers; remove and deliver data‑center surplus as needed.
- Administrative tasks and adherence: respond to and fulfill job tasks within established SLAs, maintain acceptable driver rating per Policy UTS
157, manage email/project work/meetings/training, maintain strict attendance and punctuality. - Perform other related functions as assigned.
- U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee (subject to security investigation).
- High school graduation or GED.
- Three years of experience operating computers and auxiliary equipment.
- Superior customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Work seamlessly across organizational boundaries.
- Strong verbal and written communication for coordinating with maintenance or upgrade personnel.
- Must complete and pass a CJIS background check.
- Five or more years of experience or training supporting operation of computers and equipment.
- Experience supporting operations during overnight shifts.
- Experience supporting mission‑critical data centers or NOCs.
- Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in critical data‑center operations (HVAC, electrical, UPS).
- Knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and cabling.
- System administration of Windows, Unix, and/or mainframe platforms.
- Ability and willingness to find creative solutions to reduce costs with minimal impact on reliability.
- Technical certifications such as ITIL, A+, or Data‑Center.
Class "C" operator's driver's license required. Must provide a current three‑year driving record. Texas residents must obtain a Texas driver’s license within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Salary Range$44,000 + depending on qualifications. Shift differential: additional $6,000 annually.

- Monday–Thursday, 10 pm – 8:30 am (subject to change). Frequent nights, some weekends and holidays required.
