Web Developer
Status Labs is seeking a versatile Software Engineer to sit at the intersection of client delivery, internal tooling, and web development. You will work closely with our Chief Technology Officer on a wide range of projects: from building AI-powered internal dashboards and workflow automation tools, to implementing technical changes for clients, to taking ownership of our web infrastructure.
AI is central to this role, not peripheral. We are an AI-forward team, and the ideal candidate will bring genuine fluency with large language models, AI APIs, and prompt engineering as a core part of their technical toolkit. This is a ground‑floor opportunity for someone who wants real ownership, mentorship from a technical leader with deep software and web development experience, and the chance to help shape what a modern tech function looks like at a growing agency.
This is a hybrid position that will be required to work on‑site multiple times a week in Austin.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ONClient‑Facing Web and Technical Work
- Implement on‑site technical changes for GEO and SEO clients, including structured data, schema markup, site speed improvements, and content delivery optimizations
- Build systems to create client websites from scratch, reducing reliance on external vendors and giving us more control over quality and timelines
- Advise clients on web technology decisions and help translate strategic recommendations into actual implementation
- Collaborate with the Operations team, Sales team, Finance team, and Exec team to build solutions to time‑consuming and cost‑heavy processes
- Collaborate with our CTO on internal tools in active development, including AI workflow automation systems, internal dashboards, and data visualization tools
- Automate repetitive processes across our content, reporting, and client management workflows using APIs, MCPs, and modern tooling
- Build, maintain, and extend internal applications that make the broader team faster and more effective
- Take ownership of a handful of company websites and domains
- Audit, update, and maintain our own web properties with the same rigor we apply to clients
- Ensure our sites are performant, secure, and reflect the quality of our work
We are looking for a sharp, self‑directed technologist who brings strong fundamentals, genuine AI fluency, and a collaborative approach to their work. The right person is someone who has moved beyond just writing code and is thinking about systems, craft, and impact. Ideal candidates:
- Bring genuine, working knowledge of AI and large language models and apply that knowledge practically, not just theoretically
- You don’t mind hopping on a call with a client or two (or three) for technical guidance and troubleshooting
- Are curious about how AI is reshaping web, search, and content, and want to be on the front lines of that shift
- Can work autonomously and manage their own priorities without constant oversight
- Take pride in clean, maintainable work and think about the next person who will touch their code
- Communicate well with non‑technical teammates without hiding behind jargon
- Value working in a focused, high‑trust environment where the quality of your thinking is as important as the quality of your output
- Approach problems with a builder’s mindset: if something is broken or inefficient, they want to fix it
Required
- Experience building and deploying websites using HTML, CSS, and modern frameworks such as React or Next.js
- Hands‑on experience with AI and LLM tooling, including working with APIs from providers such as OpenAI or Anthropic and applying prompt engineering techniques in production contexts
- Fluent in English – you’ll be joining client‑facing meetings at times
- Experience with CMS platforms such as Word Press or Webflow
- Familiarity with structured data, schema.org markup, and technical SEO implementation
- Comfort integrating third‑party APIs and building services around them
- Understanding of web performance and accessibility fundamentals
- Experience with version control using Git in collaborative development environments
