Wireless Network Development Engineer, OTIE Wireless Engineering — Job :  |  Services LLC. Ops Tech IT Wireless and Access Engineering owns delivering software-defined, automated, and incrementally scalable Wireless/Access network infrastructure products that improve the reliability of our wireless services for Amazon’s fulfillment centers and transportation sites worldwide. These wireless solutions are used by hundreds of thousands of associates and support critical fulfillment and transportation systems.

The Wireless Network Development Engineer will leverage in-depth knowledge of wireless networking engineering and operational practices to develop the organizational technical strategy to improve availability of one of the largest wireless networks globally. The candidate will partner with Software, Operations, and Engineering teams to define, build, and automate future solutions enabling faster, scalable management globally. You will identify themes and areas of improvement and deliver the software and design changes needed to effect change, by partnering with peer teams, coaching less tenured engineers, or executing on your own.

Our team operates across multiple business units globally, from small delivery stations in emerging markets to advanced automated fulfillment centers in North America, Japan, and Europe. This role offers a mix of tactical and strategic projects and opportunities to grow as an engineer with a lasting impact on Amazon’s fulfillment networks.

• Identifying, developing, and delivering technical solutions that improve the availability of our wireless network technologies.
• Partner with peer teams to interpret customer problems and find technological solutions using wired networking technologies where applicable.
• Define and measure the availability of existing and future network solutions, ensuring they meet or exceed customer needs.
• Identify and deliver solutions that reduce operational impact to customers and enable scalable, resilient, and cost-optimized services.
• Dive deep on complex problems to identify root causes of customer impacts and develop corrective actions.
• Evaluate new technologies, conduct lab testing, develop PoCs, runbooks, and pilot deployments.
• Innovate and automate infrastructure testing, deployment, operations, and lifecycle management.
• Define strategy for future team processes and tools to maintain and manage networks effectively, efficiently, and safely.
• Participate in a global 24x7 escalation service on a shift rotation basis; some night and weekend coverage may be required.
• Contribute to hiring and developing top talent at Amazon.
• Develop automation to resolve wireless network failures.
• Investigate challenging problems to identify root causes and improve customers’ Wi-Fi experience.
• Create and update wireless network designs to improve reliability.
• Mitigate and solve network availability risks.
• Collaborate with peer networking teams on overall network design to provide feedback and improvements from a wireless perspective.
• Participate in on-call rotation and implement metrics to measure wireless availability and identify performance risks.

• 1+ year of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl.
• Experience in wireless system design and architecture, system integration, and RF system analysis.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
• Deep understanding of IP network fundamentals and packet capture analysis.
• Analytical skills.

• 4+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl.
• Experience with IP networking fundamentals and TCP/IP, UDP, DNS & DH­CP.
• Experience leading the design, automation, deployment, and support of large-scale infrastructure.
• MS in Computer Science, Networking, Information Systems, or related fields; security-related certifications (SANS, ISC2, etc.).
