Responsibilities
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand data requirements, translate business needs into scalable data models, and ensure data integrity across systems.
  • Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support application and analytical systems.
  • Leverage data modeling software to create optimized, consistent, and reusable data designs that facilitate efficient storage and retrieval while limiting duplications.
  • Use data modeling to create a common language with visual references that describe data and its relationships across business domains.
  • Define data structures, relationships, definitions, data types, and constraints to reduce quality issues.
  • Create data models that clarify data relationships, identify duplication, and align on sources of truth.
  • Publish data models and support data modeling questions and education.
  • Collaborate with data engineers across one or more teams to deliver initiatives.
  • Work with product, business, and analyst stakeholders to understand business processes and their relationship to data.
  • Mentor and provide support to data engineers; coach them in data modeling techniques, processes, and new technologies.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale data pipelines; assist in diagnosing and solving complex production support issues.
  • Provide operational and technical expertise to design algorithm patterns that support large or complex datasets for analytics, implement calculations, cleanse data, ensure standardization, and map/link data from multiple sources.
  • Participate in the full SDLC process, including planning, design, development, certification, implementation, and support of complex projects.
  • Make recommendations for overall data workflow, design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Recommend changes to processes and tools based on industry standards, patterns, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with external technical teams to ensure timely, high-quality solutions.
  • Engage with shared services teams and vendors as needed.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of related experience in data engineering and data modeling; retail experience preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of data modeling techniques such as entity‑relationship, database normalization, dimensional modeling (star, snowflake), and data vault.
  • Experience with data modeling software such as SqlDBM, Erwin, DbSchema, and ER/Studio.
  • Experience with big‑data cloud technologies such as GCP, Big Query, Azure, AWS, Snowflake, and Databricks.
  • Experience with common data engineering tools (Git, Jira, Confluence).
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience.
  • Experience working in large-scale infrastructure, large data sets, and mission-critical SLAs.
  • High degree of personal accountability for self and the team for continued growth.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence, analytics/reporting, and application integration.
  • Knowledge of data architectures such as data warehouse, data lake, and data mesh, and when to apply them.
  • Advanced verbal, written, and data presentation skills.
  • Ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete information.
  • Ability to act as a thought leader and mentor junior team members.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies as they emerge.
  • Ability to calmly work under pressure.
