Technical Writer
Hybrid, On-site and Telework (Must live in Austin TX area)
I. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICESThe Technical Writer for the IT Certification Program is responsible for developing curricula, course outlines, instructional methods, training aids, manuals, and other instructional materials that integrate DIR data and prerequisite skills tied to CTCM & CTCD certifications.
The role includes analyzing training content for accessibility, recommending changes to enhance accessibility, and remediating accessibility issues.
Working under limited supervision, the Technical Writer utilizes independent judgment to plan and accomplish goals, performing a variety of complex tasks with a wide latitude in utilizing current IT Procurement information.
The position consults with staff to gather accurate information and translate technical content—including descriptions of concepts, processes, and systems—into clear, user‑friendly language.
II. CANDIDATE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Requirements:
- 8 required years of experience designing, developing, and implementing training curricula. Develop training programs, including instructor‑led courses, job‑aids, videos, etc.
- 5 required years of skill in writing technical and business documents and in using a computer and applicable software.
- 5 required years of experience in technical writing, journalism, or communications work. Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework in business administration, English, education, or a related field is generally preferred.
- 4 preferred years of knowledge of the techniques and methods of planning, organizing, and writing various types of materials.
- 4 preferred years of expert knowledge of MS Office Suite 2010 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the aptitude to deliver training on a myriad of software products.
Note:
Expected Start Date 04/13/2026 and Expected End Date 08/31/2026. This service may be amended, renewed, and/or extended providing both parties agree to do so in writing.
This position is Hybrid, On‑site and Telework – Austin, TX 78701. Program will only allow candidates who are local to the Austin area (within 50‑mile radius).
Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding state holidays when the agency is closed. The worker may be required to work outside normal business hours on weekends, evenings, and holidays as requested.
