OverviewWe are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Data Center Optical Engineer to support customer data centers and co-location facilities. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role focused on optical transport infrastructure, fiber installations, troubleshooting, migrations
, remediation, and break/fix activities
. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in optical networking and data center operations, along with a commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Conduct daily audits of work performed by third-party technicians and provide guidance to ensure quality standards are met.
- Support fiber installation, decommissioning, migration, remediation, and break/fix activities.
- Perform and supervise optical testing and troubleshooting using OTDRs, optical power meters, VFLs, and other test equipment
. - Interpret and execute Methods of Procedure (MoPs), engineering documentation, vendor manuals, network diagrams, and cut sheets
. - Ensure accurate cable management, port connectivity, labeling, and adherence to operational best practices.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain detailed documentation of work activities, test results, and operational changes.
- Support critical maintenance activities and respond to customer issues within established service-level agreements (SLAs).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in data center operations, optical transport, telecommunications, or related environments.
- Team lead, supervisory, or project coordination experience.
- Hands-on experience with single-mode and multi-mode fiber installation, including LC connectors, fan-outs, patch panels, and structured cabling systems.
- Strong optical testing, fault isolation, and transport troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working directly with customers in mission-critical or high-availability environments.
- Strong understanding of optical transport technologies and best practices.
- Excellent communication, documentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and customer ticketing systems.
- Experience supporting large-scale data centers or colocation facilities.
- Familiarity with DWDM, CWDM, and optical transport platforms.
- Knowledge of data center infrastructure standards and cabling best practices.
- Experience working with telecommunications or network equipment vendors.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in data center environments for extended periods.
- Comfortable working at heights and in varying environmental conditions.
- This is an onsite position requiring candidates to reside within the assigned market.
