Job DescriptionUnder general supervision, the Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for utilizing BI tools to help business teams maintain and drive improvement in business results.
Responsibilities- Analyze business and functional requirements and translate them into robust, scalable, operable solutions.
- Collect, analyze, and share data to help business teams drive improvement in key metrics, customer experience, and overall business results.
- Utilize database and web application technologies to design, develop, and evaluate innovative BI tools and automated reports.
- Design, develop, and test BI solutions such as databases, data warehouses, queries, views, reports, and dashboards.
- Perform data conversions, imports, and exports within and between internal and external systems.
- Merge BI platforms with enterprise systems and document new and existing models, solutions, and implementations.
- Enhance performance of BI tools by defining data filtering and indexing strategies.
- Troubleshoot BI tools, systems, and software, including diagnosing reported data loads or reconciliation inconsistencies in collaboration with site staff.
- Track, monitor, and analyze performance and production issues, and implement improvements.
- Support and manage external resources such as service providers and vendor support, and participate in vendor evaluations.
- Maintain the quality of the Metadata Repository by adding, modifying, and deleting data.
- Provide input to the development of data/information quality metrics.
- Track and report on issue and enhancement requests in a timely manner.
- Analyze and test new software releases and versions.
- Design and deliver end‑user training and training materials; train users to transform data into actionable information.
- Provide leadership, assign work, evaluate performance, and offer training and guidance to others as needed.
- Reporting analysis, design, and programming principles.
- Multiple industry‑standard reporting tools such as Crystal and Business Objects.
- Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and other relational database systems.
- Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and ITIL concepts.
- Release, change, configuration, and incident management.
- Industry reporting techniques and interactive reports.
- Relational data modeling and database design.
- Standard industry ERP technologies such as SAP.
- Business operations and at least one business functional area.
- Migration procedures and data processing needs of users.
- Business Intelligence/Data Warehousing environments.
- Data analysis and data mining.
- Identifying and solving system and application problems.
- Coordinating work projects and providing technical assistance.
- Preparing data structures, flowcharts, and logic flow diagrams.
- Applying migration procedures.
- Analyzing and meeting data processing needs of users.
- Working with people of varying technical abilities in a team environment.
- Training groups on reporting standards.
- Analyzing major system reporting problems and applying appropriate solutions.
- Participating in functional unit, integration, stress, systems, and user acceptance testing.
- Learning city‑specific and industry‑standard reporting tools.
- Explaining complex technical information in business terms and communicating effectively.
- Supporting Business Intelligence/Data Warehousing environments.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and the public.
Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university in a related field, plus five years of relevant experience in the consultation and utilization of BI tools. A Master’s degree may substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
