Principal Network Developer

Job Description

The Network Region Build (NRB) team is responsible for deploying greenfield infrastructure, establishing network connectivity for new (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) OCI regions, and enabling compute connectivity for child sites. This includes building and managing data center fabrics, edge networks, backbone, fiber metro networks, and supporting multi‑cloud initiatives.

NRB provides operational support during build phases and oversees network and server rack additions, decommissions, and capacity expansions. The team also drives automation, process improvements, and tool development in collaboration with Network Automation to enhance efficiency.

This role involves designing, deploying, and operating large‑scale global cloud networks. It requires a deep understanding of network protocols and programming skills to support automation  OCI's cloud network spans a global footprint, this role supports a vast infrastructure of network devices and millions of connected servers across dedicated backbone and internet‑based connectivity.

Participate in network lifecycle management through build and/or upgrade projects. Collaborate with program/project managers to develop milestones and deliverables. Use existing procedures and tools to develop and safely execute network change, while developing new procedures when necessary. Serve as technical lead for team projects and mentor junior engineers.

Contribute to the development of roadmap issues, new runbooks, and procedures. Provide break‑fix support and serve as escalation point for event remediation. Lead post‑event root cause analysis and coordinate with networking automation services for development and integration of support tooling.

Develop scripts to automate routine tasks for the team and business unit. Serve as SME on software development projects for network automation, support vendor software bug fixes, and collaborate with internal Quality Assurance to drive bug resolution and qualification of new firmware or operating systems.

Experience working in a large ISP or cloud provider environment. Exposure to commodity Ethernet hardware (Broadcom/Mellanox) and protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IS‑IS, TCP, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, MPLS, VPN, and SSL. Experience with Internet peering, inter‑domain networking, scripting or automation (Python or other languages), framework design/deployment, network modeling and programming (YANG, Open Config, NETCONF), network security design, system performance characterization, telemetry design, deployment and operation.

Excellent judgment for product roadmap direction, features, and priorities; strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

Hiring Range in USD from: $102,300 to $209,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
