Job OverviewWe are seeking a Database Engineer to design, develop, and maintain secure database architectures for healthcare SaaS platforms and clinical applications.
In this role, you will design schema layouts, optimize queries, implement indexing strategies, and configure high-availability data replication. You will collaborate with software engineering, Dev Ops, and BI teams to ensure data integrity, privacy, performance, and HIPAA compliance.
ResponsibilitiesDatabase Administration & Design
- Design schema layouts and data architectures.
- Create normalized tables and implement PHI isolation rules.
- Deploy cloud-managed databases (RDS, Aurora, Cloud SQL).
- Maintain transactional consistency and referential integrity.
- Analyze query execution plans to identify bottlenecks.
- Implement database partitioning and sharding policies.
- Design composite indexes matching filter ordering.
- Optimize slow clinical reporting and dashboard queries.
- Enforce HIPAA and SOC2 compliance controls for data.
- Implement column-level encryption for PHI data.
- Establish fine-grained database access control (RBAC).
- Set up multi-AZ primary/standby DB replication.
- Implement automated failover policies.
- Configure point-in-time recovery (PITR) pipelines.
Required
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Strong experience in database design, scaling, and administration.
- Proficiency in PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, or Oracle.
- Deep understanding of query tuning and index optimization.
- Experience configuring database clustering, replication, and backups.
- Experience in US healthcare environments or digital health platforms.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and data security practices.
- Familiarity with cloud databases (AWS Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL).
- Experience with No
SQL data stores (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra). - Exposure to Change Data Capture (CDC) and ETL pipelines.

Isolate Protected Health Information (PHI) and implement column-level encryption in database systems.
High-Availability DB ClustersDeploy primary/standby database architectures with multi-AZ failover and continuous backup pipelines.
Query Optimization PipelineAnalyze slow queries using execution plans (EXPLAIN ANALYZE), partitioning, and indexing strategies.
Data Warehouse / BI SyncMaintain CDC (Change Data Capture) pipelines to sync production databases with analytical warehouses.
Migrate on-premise clinical databases to managed cloud database systems with zero downtime.
NoSQL Caching Layers
Deploy Redis/Memcached cluster nodes to offload database query traffic for peak telemedicine hours.
