General Notes:
At the Texas Immersive Institute (TXI), we provide access to emerging technology and research to design for artists, scientists, and humanists who use storytelling to share solutions to big problems that are responsive, responsible, and remarkable. Our goal is to be a leading voice in the future of communication and media through applied creative and research projects using a mixture of live communication methods and emerging technologies.
- Maintain and organize technology within TXI's lab space, including VR/AR headsets, haptic gear, fabrication tools, and projection systems, and computer systems.
- Set up and assist with demos involving virtual reality, augmented reality, and haptic feedback devices (e.g., bHaptics gear), touch screens or 3D Printers
- Operate and troubleshoot TXI's spatial audio system (Genelec, Denon, MOTU)
- Help tech advise and participate in lab/industry projects with development teams such as Story Corps or projects.
- Troubleshoot equipment and environment issues in real time; help ensure all gear is functioning safely and correctly
- Support student and faculty's use of immersive technology through one-on-one assistance/documentation or updating systems we currently have.
- Assist in documenting processes and maintaining studio signage and wikis
- Undergraduate/Graduate Student at UT Austin - Open to Work Study
- Open to Work, M-F
- Familiarity with immersive media tools such as Unity, Unreal Engine, or Touch Designer (basic knowledge is sufficient)
- Comfortable using VR headsets (e.g., Meta Quest 2 and
3), AR devices, or motion capture tools. - Understanding of or willingness to learn projection-mapping workflows and spatial audio setups
- Interest in creative technology, media arts, or human-computer interaction and open to learning new tools and technologies as they are available if no prior knowledge is given.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and excited to learn through hands-on work and self-motivating.
- Experience/knowledge of agentic workflow systems like Claude Co-work, GPT Work, Hermes/Open Claw helpful but not necessary.
