Position Information

The Strategic Initiatives and Innovation Division (STR) operates at the nexus of technology, data, innovation, and strategy. It spearheads transformative projects for the department, collaborating with both internal and external transportation experts. We are looking for an intern to join our team and help support our Enterprise Data Science team.

Supports strategic projects under the agency's Data Scientist. Work involves performing a wide range of data analysis and data science project work or the department. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

  • Assists in developing and maintaining data ecosystems
  • Analyzes data and applies statistical techniques to draw meaningful conclusions
  • Assists with special projects under the guidance of the Data Scientist
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Education

Bachelor's Degree in a discipline related to area of assignment

Experience

Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent

Other Conditions
  • Must be at least 16 years of age, and currently enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college/university.
  • Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.
Considerable knowledge of
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with others
  • Communicating technical information effectively
  • Using database management systems and associated applications
  • Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
Other Attributes
  • Protects sensitive and confidential information
Preferred Qualifications

Students in the following fields of study preferred:
Data science, Informatics, Library Science, Information Management, or related field.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Sedentary work:
    Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Light work:
    Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
  • Sitting - prolonged periods of time
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
