Role OverviewAn opportunity is available for a Senior Red Team Security Engineer to support and help mature a newly established Red Team within an organization's Cybersecurity program. This individual will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert in penetration testing, offensive security operations, and red team program development. The ideal candidate is an experienced penetration tester who combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct internal and external penetration testing engagements against applications, systems, networks, cloud environments, and security infrastructure.
- Perform red team exercises to identify security weaknesses and validate defensive controls.
- Utilize offensive security tools and frameworks to simulate real-world attack scenarios.
- Document findings, attack paths, risks, and remediation recommendations.
- Help mature and expand the organization's Red Team program by developing and maintaining methodologies, standards, procedures, and roadmaps.
- Partner with SOC, engineering, infrastructure, and application teams to improve detection and response capabilities.
- Serve as a technical leader and mentor within the team.
- Communicate findings and recommendations in a professional, constructive manner.
- 5+ years of experience in Penetration Testing, Red Teaming, Offensive Security, Ethical Hacking, or Cybersecurity Assessments.
- Experience conducting application, infrastructure, network, and cloud security assessments.
- Strong knowledge of Security Architecture, Security Engineering Principles, Network and Infrastructure Security, and Offensive Security Methodologies.
- Experience creating technical documentation, procedures, standards, reports, and security roadmaps.
- Ability to independently manage multiple security initiatives simultaneously.
- Python or other scripting/programming experience.
- Experience with technologies such as Kali Linux, Veracode, Tenable, Synack, Wiz, Horizon3 AI, Microsoft Sentinel, Net Witness, or VMware.
- Experience building, scaling, or supporting Red Team programs.
- Security Engineering or SOC Operations experience.
- Experience in a state government or large enterprise environment.
- Experience leading penetration testing engagements.
- Experience working within highly regulated environments.
This position is part of a newly established Red Team. The selected candidate will have an opportunity to help shape the future direction of the Red Team and Penetration Testing program while working closely with cybersecurity leadership. The role is 100% onsite in Austin, Texas, five days per week, in a collaborative team environment.
