Lab Support Engineer

Insight Global is seeking a Lab Support Engineer to join a growing technology team in Austin, TX. This individual will be responsible for maintaining and improving Linux and Windows-based server environments that support hardware development, reliability testing, and engineering validation efforts. The ideal candidate will have strong Linux administration experience, hands‑on server and hardware knowledge, and a passion for automation. This role goes beyond traditional support and requires someone who can build, improve, and automate infrastructure while ensuring high availability across complex lab environments.

• Support and administer Linux and Windows server environments
• Deploy, configure, and maintain lab infrastructure supporting engineering teams
• Install, rack, troubleshoot, and replace server hardware and components
• Support reliability, thermal, and hardware validation testing environments
• Monitor and maintain lab uptime and operational stability
• Build and improve automation solutions for infrastructure management
• Assist with lab setup, expansion, and reconfiguration projects
• Troubleshoot operating system, networking, hardware, and infrastructure issues
• Support engineering teams with data collection systems and testing environments
• Develop documentation, standards, and repeatable operational processes
• Identify opportunities to improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency
• Partner with teams located globally, including engineering groups in Bristol

• 3-6+ years of Linux systems administration experience
• Experience supporting both Linux and Windows server environments
• Strong understanding of server hardware and troubleshooting

- Experience with:

• Infrastructure-as-Code
• Ansible
• Puppet
• Server deployment and configuration
• Hardware installation and maintenance

- Knowledge of networking concepts including:

• VLANs
• VPNs
• Routing

- Experience supporting physical infrastructure, including:

• Rack-mounted equipment
• BIOS/Firmware upgrades
• BMCs (Baseboard Management Controllers)
• Out-of-band management networks
• PDUs (Power Distribution Units)

• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
• Experience working independently in fast-paced environments
• Strong communication and documentation abilities

• Python scripting or software development experience
• Experience building automation tools and workflows
• Monitoring platforms such as:
  • Grafana
  • Open Telemetry
• Experience with:
  • Docker
• Experience managing:
  • HAProxy
  • Load balancers
  • Reverse proxies
• Performance troubleshooting across:
  • CPU
  • Memory
  • Storage
  • Networking
• Experience supporting engineering labs, hardware development environments, semiconductor organizations, or test labs

This position is a 9-month contract-to-hire. The hourly pay for this role is between $35-$42/hr.
