The Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions. We are accepting applications from outstanding candidates in all areas of computer science.

In addition to all core areas within CS, we encourage candidates with strong technical grounding in computer science whose work creates opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, including potential partial or joint appointments in other departments at The University of Texas  part of UT Austin’s School of Computing, Computer Science has close ties with the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences and the Department of Information, creating additional opportunities for joint appointments and cross-disciplinary research.

We are also particularly interested in candidates advancing AI for Science, as well as those working specifically at the intersection of computer science with neuroscience, biology, or medicine.

The department is ranked among the top computer science departments in the country. It has 64 tenured and tenure-track faculty members across all areas of computer science. Beginning in Fall 2026, Computer Science will be one of three founding academic units in UT Austin’s new School of Computing, alongside Statistics and Data Science and Information. The new School is designed to strengthen collaboration and create new opportunities for cross-departmental research and education.

Many faculty also participate in interdisciplinary programs and centers across the University, including Texas Robotics, the Machine Learning Laboratory, the Institute on Foundations of Machine Learning (an NSF AI Institute), Learning Directed Operating Systems (NSF Expeditions in Computing), the Center for Generative AI, the Good Systems Grand Challenge on Ethical AI, the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), and the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Science.

All tenure-track positions require a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in computer science or a related area at the time of employment. Successful candidates are expected to pursue an active research program, to teach both graduate and undergraduate courses, and to supervise graduate students in research.
