Site Reliability Engineer Network Intern - OneIT - Austin, TX

Your role and responsibilities

IBM is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Administrator intern with an interest in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and/or Networking Reliability Engineering (NRE) to join our team. These roles offers hands-on experience in enterprise IT systems management while introducing you to modern reliability engineering practices. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals to support infrastructure operations and contribute to automation and performance initiatives.

• Assist in maintaining and supporting enterprise IT systems including servers, virtual machines, and cloud environments.
• Monitor system performance and help identify reliability issues.
• Support automation efforts for routine administrative tasks using scripting tools.
• Participate in incident response and post-incident analysis.
• Help document system configurations, operational procedures, and reliability metrics.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on infrastructure and service delivery

• Assist in configuring, monitoring, and maintaining network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls.
• Support day-to-day network operations, troubleshooting connectivity issues and escalating as needed.
• Participate in network performance analysis and reporting.
• Learn and apply automation techniques to reduce manual tasks and improve reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on network upgrades, deployments, and incident response.
• Document network configurations, procedures, and reliability metrics.

High School Diploma/GED

Bachelor's Degree

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of IP (internet protocol) and other network administration protocols.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to conduct research into IT networking issues and products as required.
• Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities.

• Exposure to cloud platforms (IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure).
• Interest in SRE principles such as automation, observability, and fault tolerance.
• Interest in NRE principles such as fault tolerance, observability, and incident response.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, Solar Winds, Grafana).
• Understanding of cloud networking (IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure).
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus).
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD concepts.
