Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.

As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

The Business Insurance (BI) Underwriting Standards & Practices team is responsible for establishing, assessing, and ensuring field execution of underwriting standards, controls, and business practices. In doing so, the team helps to ensure strong underwriting quality, profitability, growth, and retention of business. As a Manager, BI UW Standards & Practices, you will conduct independent, risk-based assessments to ensure appropriate underwriting execution and adherence to guidelines for Loss Sensitive and more broadly across other BI business units such as Commercial Accounts, Technology, Public Sector, and/or Construction.

You will likewise be responsible for communicating assessment results, working closely with business leadership to address opportunities for improvement, and liaising with BI underwriting leadership, Enterprise Underwriting, Corporate Audit, Corporate Compliance, and Legal on all underwriting and compliance quality assurance-related issues. Prior experience with Loss Sensitive Underwriting or Product is strongly preferred. This position is 100% remote.

What Will You Do?
  • Assess adherence to underwriting guidelines, determine the impact of any deficiencies, and develop recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Prepare and present trend analysis reports, ensuring the analyses meet all enterprise and regulatory standards and effectively communicate insights to business leadership.
  • Track completion of required assessments and follow up with business leadership to address any corrective actions, ensuring consistency in underwriting standards and quality.
  • Contribute to the development of underwriting standards, practices, and tools that align with both portfolio and individual risk underwriting practices, including underwriting automation and rules, portfolio controls, and collaboration standards.
  • Support and/or lead training sessions designed to improve underwriting quality.
  • Assist with inquiries from Enterprise Underwriting, BI Underwriting, BI Product, Corporate Audit, Corporate Compliance, and state regulators regarding issues with assigned portfolio(s).
  • Lead or participate in projects to improve quality assurance processes, technology, monitoring, analysis, and communication of results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 7 years of compliance, underwriting, claim, product or relevant quality assurance experience.
  • Intermediate experience in Loss Sensitive products and services.
  • Underwriting and/or Product experience in National Accounts and/or Commercial Accounts.
  • General knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance business, systems and products.
  • General knowledge of risk assessment, technology and auditing principles.
  • CPCU, CIA, or CPA.
What is a Must Have?
  • 5 years of compliance, underwriting, claim, product or relevant quality assurance experience.
