We are seeking an experienced Equine Claims Adjuster / Examiner to join our team. This unique role combines specialized equine knowledge with insurance claims expertise to investigate, evaluate, and resolve equine insurance claims. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of horses, insurance policy interpretation, claims handling, and client communication.

Position Summary

The Equine Claims Adjuster / Examiner is responsible for investigating, evaluating, documenting, and resolving equine insurance claims in accordance with policy provisions and industry standards. This role works closely with policyholders, veterinarians, appraisers, and other stakeholders to assess losses, determine coverage, and support fair and timely claim resolution.

Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and a compassionate approach when working with policyholders who have experienced a loss.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate equine insurance claims to determine the circumstances, validity, and extent of reported losses.
• Gather and review records, documentation, and supporting evidence.
• Analyze claim information and identify inconsistencies, missing documentation, or issues requiring additional investigation.
• Evaluate claims in accordance with policy provisions and company guidelines.

• Interpret insurance policy language and determine applicable coverage.
• Assess reported losses against policy terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions.
• Clearly document claim evaluations and recommendations.
• Escalate complex coverage questions as needed.

• Apply practical equine knowledge when assessing losses and claim circumstances.
• Collaborate with veterinarians, appraisers, trainers, and other professionals when necessary.
• Review medical, valuation, and other supporting reports as part of the claim evaluation process.

• Determine the value of covered losses and appropriate claim payments.
• Negotiate settlements and facilitate timely claim resolution.
• Exercise sound judgment when evaluating settlement opportunities.
• Thoroughly document negotiations and claim decisions.

• Serve as a primary point of contact for policyholders throughout the claims process.
• Provide timely updates and respond to questions professionally and compassionately.
• Manage difficult conversations with empathy while remaining focused on policy provisions and claim facts.
• Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.

• Maintain accurate, organized, and complete claim files.
• Document investigations, communications, evaluations, and claim activity.
• Ensure all supporting documentation is properly maintained and accessible.
• Create clear claim records that support the reasoning behind claim decisions.

• Handle claims in compliance with policy provisions and applicable regulations.
• Maintain a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.
• Stay current on industry trends, regulations, and claims-handling best practices.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and a culture of service excellence.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience handling equine insurance claims or working in a related equine insurance environment.
• Active home-state Property & Casualty Adjuster License.
