MDC Precision — Buyer (Austin, TX)
Reports to:
Planning & Scheduling Supervisor - FLSA:
Non-Exempt
The Buyer researches, evaluates, and procures services, supplies, and equipment that meet MDC Precision’s quality, cost, and delivery requirements. You’ll consolidate internal requests, source and negotiate with suppliers, issue purchase orders, and maintain accurate purchasing records to support on-time production.
Key Responsibilities- Manage purchasing requests: receive, review, and consolidate requisitions from internal teams.
- Validate requirements: verify part nomenclature, specifications, quantities, and approvals.
- Source and quote: research suppliers, consult catalogs, and obtain pricing, specs, and lead times.
- Issue POs: enter accurate purchase orders in the ERP (IFS), route for approval, and transmit to suppliers and requesting departments.
- Track performance: maintain records of purchases, transfers, pricing, deliveries, and inventory movements; compute total cost for purchased items.
- Expedite and resolve: follow up with suppliers on late deliveries and resolve discrepancies.
- Award business: compare quotes on price, specifications, and delivery; recommend/award contracts or place orders accordingly.
- Sales support: assist Technical Sales with quoting by gathering supplier pricing and lead-time data.
- Continuous improvement: identify cost savings, lead-time reductions, and supplier performance improvements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong reading of technical documents, safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedures.
- Clear written communication for routine reports and vendor/customer correspondence; effective verbal communication with groups and cross‑functional teams.
- Solid math skills, including discounts, interest, percentages, proportions, geometry, and basic algebra.
- Practical problem‑solving in settings with limited standardization; ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule‑based instructions.
- Working knowledge of IFS ERP (or similar); proficiency with PC applications (e.g., Excel, Word, email).
- Professional, collaborative communicator able to interface across all organizational levels.
- Bachelor’s degree in business management or related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered.
- 1+ year of experience performing comparable purchasing responsibilities (requisitions, sourcing, quoting, PO entry, expediting).
Physical Requirements
- Primarily office‑based at a computer workstation with regular sitting; frequent hand use; regular talking/hearing; occasional walking and reaching.
- Routine phone and cross‑functional interaction; periods of sustained computer work.
- Light physical effort including stooping/bending and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
- Noise level is typically low to moderate.
