Job Summary

General

Purpose:

Responsible for providing operational expertise to enhance the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the department by establishing and maintaining strong customer relationships, liaising with operations, customers and carriers in order to ensure customer satisfaction and to deliver maximum advantage to the business. Also responsible for ensuring legal compliance within government rules and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Import/Export regulations and Administration regulations.
  • Develop and maintain policy and procedures to ensure customs regulations compliance is adhered to.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day activity of the personnel assigned to Import/Export activities.
  • Ensure proper Import/Export documentation and procedures are maintained in accordance with Customs standards and requirements.
  • Advise company on customs requirements and inform other departments of any issues that may arise affecting their operation.
  • Recommend corrective action required to ensure all Import/Export transactions adhere to customs compliance.
  • Ensure and prepare documentation required by Customs to import/export commodities.
  • Review import compliance contracts for required clauses and identify omissions.
  • Interface with internal and external customers, foreign order administration, freight forwarders, customs officers and other functional areas to ensure coordination and logistics of shipment.
  • Select carriers/forwarders for shipment of products and prepare documents for freight forwarders.
  • Maintain accurate import compliance for all inbound international shipments.
  • Implement and maintain a record‑keeping system to comply with U.S. Customs.
  • Perform regular audits as deemed mandatory by Corporate Flex with several departments to identify, disclose and work to fix any potential import compliance concerns.
  • Make entry adjustments with U.S. Customs when necessary.
  • Code international freight invoices for inbound shipments, as well as domestic truck load shipments to departments within the site.
  • Research short‑paid invoices and resolve any related issues.
  • Maintain and update inbound/outbound carrier routing guide for the site per FLEX Corporate Logistics guidelines.
  • Distribute routing guide to Purchasing, Shipping and various other departments.
  • Notify departments within the site of any non‑compliant issues.
  • File claims with the carrier/insurance companies per the FLEX Corporate Logistics procedure for compensation of lost/damaged freight while in the care of the carrier.
  • Maintain claims data and interact with FLEX Corporate Logistics and insurance company/carrier to resolve claim issues/questions.
  • Communicate with Purchasing and Manufacturing departments for support in part clarification.
  • Interact with Corporate Compliance to ensure import/export compliance processes are up to date to meet U.S. customs rules and regulations.
  • Ensure U.S. customs guidelines are followed by vendors, purchasing, broker, site logistics and other responsible parties.
  • Attend Import Compliance Seminars for updates on latest customs rules and regulations.
  • Classify importing items with correct HTS.
  • Ensure FDA, FCC, U.S. goods return forms and fumigation certificates are provided and on file for parts requiring this information.
  • Audit import documents for international shipments cleared through U.S. Customs.
  • Notify members of the site’s Compliance team that a discrepancy in the audit should be noted and drive escalation as appropriate to resolve the issue.
  • Correct entry documents for entries identified.
  • File import documents.
  • Maintain and update part number database with the most up‑to‑date HTS, COO and OGA information.
  • Maintain COO database used to identify non‑compliant vendors.
  • Export compliance: obtain international and domestic rate quotes per request by site management.
  • Prepare rate comparisons between carriers.
  • Track international shipments and may track domestic shipments.
  • Provide PODs for shipments.
  • Research freight issues.
  • Audit special‑need deliveries to identify issues and concerns.
  • File or assist with filing of freight claims for international and domestic shipments.
