The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.
Responsibilities- Perform highly complex custodial work including cleaning and sanitizing residents’ homes, bedrooms, office spaces, medical and activity areas.
- Conduct inspections of buildings and equipment to ensure cleanliness and safety standards.
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, including monitoring levels, reordering, and verifying quality.
- Provide backup support to other custodians as needed and act as lead to other custodians and Custodial Manager in times of absence.
- Assist Custodial Manager in planning and overseeing general custodial functions, scheduling, training, and quality standards.
- Keep accurate records of custodial activities, schedules, maintenance tasks, incidents, and inventory.
- Analyze current operations to identify areas for improvement and efficiency.
- Ensure proper maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment, coordinating repairs and upgrades.
- Participate in disaster response, continuity of operations, and other duties as assigned.
- Attend work regularly and work required shift schedules, possibly rotating, extended, or overtime.
- Cleans various facility areas using appropriate cleaning agents and techniques.
- Handles biohazardous materials and disinfects medical equipment.
- Conducts regular inspections and assesses safety standards.
- Tracks cleaning supplies and equipment in a database; monitors stock levels and initiates reordering.
- Works closely with custodian manager to assign tasks, create schedules, and maintain high standards.
- Records details of custodial activities and maintains logs of cleaning schedules and incidents.
- Assesses custodial operations for redundancies, inefficiencies, and resource allocation.
- Conducts routine inspections for wear, damage, or malfunction; implements preventive maintenance program.
- Participates in disaster response and continuity of operations activation if required.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, sanitation regulations, and infection control principles.
- Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
- Skill in using custodial equipment, materials, and handling chemicals safely.
- Skill in using and maintaining building maintenance tools and equipment.
- Skill in tracking inventory and usage data.
- Ability to stay on task and complete work timely.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Physical ability to lift 45 pounds, stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods, and work irregular hours.
- Ability to work harmoniously and productively with co‑workers and patients.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver license; or obtain within 90 days after hire.
- Applicants with an out‑of‑state driver license must provide an original certified driving record.
- Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is preferred.
