Lone Star Paving is a paving contractor operating in the Central Texas region, managing heavy highway and civil projects with paving crews, HMA, aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. Position Overview

The Heavy Paving Equipment/Diesel Mechanic will work closely with the Milling, Asphalt, and Maintenance Teams to ensure company‑owned tools, equipment, and vehicles are always maintained in good working order, consistent with direction provided by the direct manager. The ideal candidate has experience with maintenance of paving equipment, particularly asphalt milling machines, and a thorough understanding of asphalt work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate condition of defective tools, equipment and fleet vehicles located at the Yard or at construction job sites; collaborate with the Equipment Manager in troubleshooting defective equipment and participate in discussions to arrive at solutions for dealing with defective items.
  • For items requiring more extensive or unusual repairs, prepare an estimate of cost to complete repair and seek authorization to proceed from the Equipment Manager before commencing repair.
  • Following a standard maintenance schedule developed collaboratively with the Equipment Manager, perform routine maintenance on company‑owned tools, equipment and vehicles. Ensure that maintenance is performed on schedule, to standard and that accurate logs of such maintenance are kept up to date.
  • Place approved orders for replacement parts with vendors; ensure that the Equipment Manager is informed of all such deliveries and that all associated paperwork is provided to the Equipment Manager in a timely manner.
  • Before departing work each day, ensure that the shop area is neat, clean and orderly; all tools are stored in their proper place and the shop surfaces are free of trash and debris.
  • Additional responsibilities as may be assumed or assigned from time to time in support of our company's effort to achieve client loyalty.
Qualifications
  • Trade school or 3-5+ years of qualified experience
  • Work experience with diagnostics, maintenance, and operation of asphalt milling machines
  • Must be organized with a detail‑oriented mindset
  • Must be positive, friendly, and professional
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one‑on‑one setting
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.
  • Position requires driving company vehicles. Applicants must meet insurance eligibility requirements to operate company vehicles (typically this includes being 25 years of age or older).
Knowledge / Skill Requirements
  • Ability to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate professional communication in reaching out to employees and managers for needed documents
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as they arise
  • Exhibit excellent time‑management skills and ability to prioritize various tasks and complete them in a timely manner
  • Able to perform duties independently
  • Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferred
  • Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations, a plus
Working Conditions
  • Be available for overtime, extended hours, and weekends as required
  • Some travel may be required as our operations span throughout Texas
  • Work will be performed in both a general warehouse environment as well as a construction site environment, which could include but not be limited to inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
