Assistant Director for School Operations
Salary Information: B26 – $8,500.00 – $9,500.00 per month. State Classification:
Director I – 1620. FLSA Status:

Austin, Houston, San Antonio, or Lubbock, TX. Telework is not offered; all employees required to be physically present for work.
Responsibilities- Assist the Director for School Operations in directing and coordinating activities of staff operations statewide, including planning, developing, overseeing, and evaluating projects, schedules, and work plans.
- Provide direct supervision to section staff, including assessment of performance, identification of training needs, time and leave reporting, workflow coordination, coaching, and other staff meetings.
- Ensure administrative review and technical assistance processes for Child Nutrition Programs comply with all federal and state rules and regulations; recommend corrections to reduce risk.
- Identify areas for improvement in processes, procedures, staff training, and tools to increase efficiency; collaborate with other units to develop and maintain accuracy, relevance, and test system enhancements.
- Serve as the state‑level contact for external stakeholders, including producing and disseminating program information, resolving compliance issues, and managing high‑profile, high‑risk situations with contracting entities.
- Assist in the development of required program reports and represent the division at local, statewide, and federal levels on monitoring policies and procedures, including speaking engagements.
- Follow all TDA policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree (or one year of related work experience substituting for one year of college).
- Five (5) years of experience reviewing and ensuring compliance of programs with federal, state, or local governments.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Experience as a lead, senior, or manager in School Nutrition Programs.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to program activities and/or business functions; business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques; principles and practices of public administration and management. Skills in establishing plans and setting objectives, decision‑making, risk assessment, judgment for recommendations, conflict resolution, collaborative problem‑solving, customer service, and computer/software use. Ability to organize program activities, establish goals, identify problems, evaluate alternatives, implement solutions, develop policies, prepare reports, communicate effectively, and supervise others.
Physical Requirements & Working ConditionsNormal office environment; may involve walking, standing, pulling, pushing, kneeling, stooping, bending, fine motor tasks, and lifting up to 30 pounds; may require extended hours, evenings, weekends, and up to 20% travel, occasionally overnight.
Work Hours & TeleworkCore business hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday. Limited customer service 6:00–8:00 a.m. and 5:00–6:00 p.m. Telework not available.
