Confidential Executive Opportunity

Opening:
Vice President, Manufacturing & Operations

Location:

Austin, Texas

Reports to:

Chief Operating Officer

Type:
Full-Time | Executive Leadership

A rapidly scaling, mission-driven advanced manufacturing company in the residential construction space is seeking a Vice President of Manufacturing & Operations to architect and lead its end-to-end production and site operations platform. The organization is redefining attainable home ownership through precision-built, zero-energy homes and integrated community systems designed to materially reduce the total monthly cost of living for working families.

This executive will serve as the operational cornerstone of a multi-phase scale strategy — converting design and engineering intent into safe, certified, repeatable output across site-based builds and factory-scale production. The mandate is transformational: build the operating system, commission facilities, establish safety and certification frameworks, and scale throughput with industrial rigor.

Role Overview

The Vice President, Manufacturing & Operations is a cornerstone executive hire responsible for building and leading the end-to-end manufacturing and site operations system. This role owns the conversion of design, engineering, and supply into safe, certified, repeatable output, spanning early site-based builds through factory-scale production.

Key Responsibilities

General Contractor & Subcontractor Management

  • Manage the General Contractor and subcontractors during Iron Bird delivery.
  • Enforce safety, quality, schedule, and certification requirements.
  • Establish clear accountability and escalation paths.

Factory Readiness, Commissioning & Ramp

  • Lead readiness and commissioning of manufacturing facilities.
  • Own the transition from site-based builds to factory-based production.
  • Define ramp curves, capacity assumptions, and stabilization plans.

Manufacturing Performance & Conversion Accountability

  • Own throughput, takt, yield, quality, uptime, and operational stability.
  • Translate design and engineering intent into executable, standardized operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement and root-cause resolution.

Safety Leadership & Standards Creation

  • Create and own safety standards across site and factory operations.
  • Embed safety into layout, equipment selection, standard work, and training.
  • Establish safety governance, escalation, and learning systems.

Factory Certification & Compliance

  • Lead certification strategy across Crawl, Walk, and Run phases.
  • Coordinate external partners including MG2, UL, ICC-ES, and AHJs.
  • Own audit readiness, remediation, and sustainment.

Factory Organization & Team Build-Out

  • Design and build the factory organization and leadership model.
  • Hire, onboard, and develop supervisors, leads, operators, maintenance, and quality roles.
  • Define shift models, spans of control, and accountability structures.

Systems, Data & Industrial Discipline

  • Define manufacturing execution and data requirements.
  • Align ERP/MRP planning assumptions with operational reality.
  • Establish KPI dashboards and daily management routines.

Cross-Functional Execution

  • Partner with the VP of Supply Chain to align inbound certainty with conversion capability.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Finance, and the COO on capacity, capital, and ramp decisions.
  • Provide clear, credible operational input at the executive and board level.
Candidate Requirements
  • 15+ years’ experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, or high-growth plant environments.
  • Proven experience managing General Contractors and subcontractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and scale factory teams.
  • Track record of commissioning and running certified operations.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Operations, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Advanced qualifications (MS, MBA) are beneficial but not required.
  • Equivalent practical experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
