Doucet, a Kleinfelder company, is looking for a dynamic Practice Lead of Land Development to join our Austin office and be responsible for the P&L of the Austin Land Development department. This position creates performance and sales goals, ensures project managers and engineers comply with company quality standards, monitors the performance of the production team, and provides senior level expertise to guide staff in solving complex problems.

Projects range in size and complexity from small to large, including retail, commercial, residential and master planned communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create an annual business plan with your Project Managers and present it to the Area Manager - Vice President.
  • Establish department objectives by collaborating with team members and management.
  • Oversee business development activities, including coordination with Bus Dev team and promoting your technical team to engage in BD.
  • Establish team’s BD plan and cultivate key client relationships.
  • Develop growing pipeline and proactively build and maintain relationships with current and future clients.
  • KPI: revenue, team utilization, net revenue multiplier, DSO, profitability, etc.
  • AR collections, effort vs contract value, project profitability, change order submission, monthly invoicing.
  • Risk management; contract review, proposal review, licensing review.
  • Consistently update the department’s financial forecast.
  • Maintain an Open Door Policy.
  • Communicate employee and company objectives and goals.
  • Promote an entrepreneurial growth environment.
  • Performance Management:
    Initiate and follow up on reviews, support and provide details for improvement plans, and ensure successful development of staff.
  • Training: monitor and guide implementation of training program.
  • Mentor staff on industry, project, process knowledge, and best practices.
  • Manage all members of the team with authority to recruit, interview, onboard, train, evaluate, promote, and discipline.
  • Communicate with Human Resources regarding hiring, review, promotion, retention, and termination of employees.
  • Support regional recruiting efforts and work with regional in-house recruiters.
  • Identify, interview, and hire key talent.
  • Build an organizational chart and hire toward those goals.
  • Monitor compensation requirements for staff and adjust accordingly.
  • Approve timesheets and PTO, expense reports, and corporate credit card expenses.
  • Understand the safety manuals and protocols.
  • Engage Health and Safety to educate, as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of the safety aspects/requirements of projects from a team perspective and appropriate engagement, direction, and training with safety for the support needed.
  • Meet professional education requirements.
  • Review professional and market segment publications.
  • Participate in applicable professional societies and trade associations.
  • Promote internal communication and encourage dialogue within project teams, across market sectors, and throughout the organization.
Education/Certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Typically, a minimum of fifteen (15) plus years of experience in civil engineering — land development.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, develop talent, and lead business development efforts.
