Administrative Manager

Department: Educational Leadership and Policy

Location: UT MAIN CAMPUS

Start Date: May 08, 2026

Hours: 40 hours per week

Status: Exempt from FLSA

Purpose

Provide leadership and oversee administrative functions such as budgeting, salaries, HR, promotion, recruiting, staff supervision, ensuring efficient operations in alignment with policy and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Operations: relieve the Chair from daily operational decisions, manage budgeting, financial reporting, serve as electronic office manager, maintain contact lists, coordinate space and inventory, handle faculty visits and travel.
  • Human Resources: provide HR functions for department and Option III program, review appointments, act as I‑9 partner, process appointments, review payroll data, update job descriptions, serve as HR contact.
  • Faculty Affairs: assist Chair in faculty matters, coordinate recruitment, manage promotion and tenure processes, oversee various faculty review cycles, manage faculty files and documentation.
  • Staff Management and Supervision: supervise administrative staff, assist with hiring, training, onboarding, and separation of student workers.
  • Interdepartmental Relations: liaison with Dean's office and other campus units, provide counsel on policies, represent department in professional organizations, oversee web site updates.
  • Records Management: maintain personnel files and department records.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in financial, HR, and administrative management in large organizations, preferably higher‑education.
  • Strong time‑management, organizational, and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, meet competing deadlines, and maintain regular attendance.
  • Experience with confidential and sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of UT Austin and state purchasing and budgeting rules; experience with UT Austin systems such as
    * DEFINE, Workday, FRMS.
  • Experience with faculty recruitment, promotion, and faculty development.
  • Record of workforce planning and employee development in higher‑education setting.
  • Familiarity with University of Texas policies and procedures.
Salary

$75,000 + depending on qualifications.

Working Conditions

Monday‑Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; flexible work arrangement possible (hybrid/remote and on‑campus). Possible extended hours for department events.

Other Conditions

Retirement plan:
Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS). Eligibility requires ≥20 hours per week and ≥135 days in length.
