The Role And Team

The eBay Controllership team is seeking an impact driven leader with a combination of technical and operational accounting skills to join the team as a Senior Accounting Manager leading Financial Services, Shipping & Losses. This role will provide end-to-end controllership oversight over Financial Services, Shipping, and Transaction Loss Controlling teams and directly manage and develop a team of accounting professionals!

Success in this role requires strong leadership, the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple geographies and functions, and accountability for delivering a high-quality and timely close in accordance with accounting and reporting requirements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate good judgment, critical thinking, and a dedication to building scalable processes, a strong control environment, and a high-performing team!

What You Will Accomplish
  • Lead month‑end close processes and ensure the integrity and completeness of the financial results, including oversight of accruals, key reserves and estimates, account reconciliations, fluctuation analyses, accounting positions, and related disclosures, ensuring alignment with U.S. GAAP and reporting requirements.
  • Lead and develop the Controlling teams, providing clear direction, coaching, and performance management while encouraging a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a trusted and strategic Controllership partner across cross‑functional groups (including Finance, Accounting Policy, SOX, Tax, Legal, Shared Services, Technology/Automation, Product, and Business teams), providing leadership on key business initiatives by identifying accounting implications, establishing appropriate positions, and ensuring implementation of effective financial controls and scalable processes, while representing the Controlling function in global forums and decision‑making discussions.
  • Be responsible for internal controls compliance across related processes, including assessing control implications, designing and improving controls as needed, and leading relevant engagements with internal and external auditors.
  • Champion a forward‑looking, innovation‑oriented approach by continuously challenging both existing accounting processes and new initiatives, proactively seeking opportunities to leverage automation, data intelligence, and new technologies (including AI/ML), and reimagining how work is designed to improve scalability, insight, and efficiency across the close and control environment.
What You Will Bring
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • At least 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility; experience in public accounting and within a large, sophisticated, high‑growth organization is preferred.
  • CPA or equivalent required.
  • Deep technical expertise in U.S. GAAP and SOX, with proven experience establishing accounting positions, supervising key estimates and reserves, and maintaining a strong control environment.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and scale high‑performing teams, including coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Executive‑level communication skills, with experience addressing senior leadership and influencing cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment in sophisticated, ambiguous situations and drive resolution of significant accounting, operational, and system matters.
