Job Summary:
Benefit administration is a TMRS core function and includes processing all member applications and providing counseling and other services to TMRS’ more than 270,000 Members, retirees, and beneficiaries. The Benefit Administration Manager reports to the Director of City and Member Services and is responsible for overseeing daily work activities and ensuring that staff provide accurate information and timely service to both internal and external customers.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Ensure that Member data and benefit payments are accurate,Manage the Benefit Administration staff to ensure staff provide superior service and consistently evaluate and measure the team’s accuracy and effectiveness.
Select and manage department staff and identify training opportunities and provide feedback and coaching to improve performance and skills.
Assist with maintaining, communicating, and implementing policies, programs, procedures, and standards for the department.
Identify and recommend system and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Serve as project manager on assigned special projects as necessary.
Coordinate and resolve escalated customer service issues.
Education, Experience &
Skills:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of progressively responsible experience, including a minimum of 2 years of prior management experience.
Proven ability to provide effective leadership over a broad range of management skills.
Experience managing and leading a diverse set of employees and teams.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
A passion for public and customer service is a must.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in public pension, retirement, or financial services administration.
Customer service experience, preferably in benefit administration.

Sedentary work:
Exerting up to 10lbs of force. Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
