Chief Financial Officer

Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) is a social outreach ministry that has been empowering communities into a lifestyle of service with the homeless since 1998. Founded in Austin, Texas, the organization serves its homeless neighbors through three core programs:
Truck Ministry, Community First! Village, and Community Works. Often referred to as the most talked about neighborhood in Austin, Community First! Village is a 51-acre master planned development that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for men and women coming out of chronic homelessness. We are now embarking on a new phase of community expansion, adding more than 1400 new neighbors over the next 5-10 years.

the Role

Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) is seeking a mission-driven, strategic leader to serve as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of our rapidly growing organization. In this pivotal role, the CFO will steward the financial and operational health of MLF, ensuring systems and resources align with our organization's vision to empower communities into a lifestyle of service with the homeless.

The CFO will oversee the organization's financial strategy and accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, transparency, operational excellence, and exceptional customer service, while partnering with the Innovation Team to leverage technology, data, and process improvements that strengthen organizational effectiveness and efficiency. Working closely with MLF's Executive Strategy Team and Board of Directors, the CFO will help position the organization for long-term sustainability while remaining deeply rooted in MLF's relational core values and Gospel-driven mission.

This is a full-time, exempt position reporting directly to the President. While typical hours are 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday, flexibility will be required to meet organizational needs, including occasional nights and weekends. The CFO will office at Community First! Village, located at 9116 Hog Eye Road, Austin, TX 78724.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Financial Management and Strategy
    • Working closely with the President & Chief Operating Officer, lead the development and execution of the organization's financial strategy, ensuring alignment with short- and long-term goals.
    • Oversee the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting, ensuring all financial resources are allocated effectively to achieve organizational goals.
    • Provide insights on financial performance, cash flow management, investment strategies, and fundraising results to the Executive Strategy Team and Board.
  • Accounting Oversight
    • Supervise and mentor the Director of Finance, driving improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and financial controls.
    • Maintain oversight of accounting systems, financial reporting, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
    • Leverage AI and emerging technologies to optimize processes and workflows within the accounting and finance area.
  • Stewardship
    • Oversee the organization’s stewardship of our assets, ensuring transparency, integrity, security, and effective management in alignment with organizational goals.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of an endowment to support the long-term sustainability of the organization’s operations and assets.
    • Cultivate external relationships to provide access to capital growth opportunities that fit the organization’s risk profile.
    • Leverage data to enhance performance measurement, donor engagement, program outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Risk Management, Compliance, & Government Relations
    • Manage relationships with external legal counsel, ensuring the organization is represented appropriately in legal matters and identifying new or specialized firms as needed.
    • Work with the Director of Finance to ensure the organization adheres to best practices in nonprofit governance, including proper risk management procedures, insurance coverage, and legal compliance.
    • Help develop the Risk Management, Compliance, and Government Relations team to help orient MLF and CFV for long term sustainability and growth.
