The Texas Institute for Electronics (TIE) is a collaborative effort supported by the University of Texas at Austin, state and local government, leading defense electronics and semiconductor companies, national labs, and academic institutions. TIE focuses on developing advanced 3D heterogeneous integration manufacturing technology to advance U.S. semiconductor capabilities.

Manufacturing Technician responsibilities include operating, monitoring, and maintaining semiconductor processing equipment, executing standard and experimental process flows, and supporting researchers and engineers in developing, characterizing, and improving novel semiconductor processes and devices.

• Operate semiconductor fabrication equipment such as photolithography, etch, deposition, bonding, diffusion/implant, CMP, electroplating, metrology, and clean tools.
• Execute process recipes, travelers, and experimental flows accurately and consistently.
• Handle 100 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm, and/or 300 mm wafers while complying with cleanroom and EHS standards.
• Support experimental runs, prototype builds, and funded research programs.
• Collaborate with process engineers and researchers to develop, optimize, and troubleshoot processes.
• Collect and analyze process and metrology data, providing structured feedback.
• Perform in‑line and end‑of‑line metrology, including thickness, CD, profilometry, and defect inspection.
• Document results, deviations, and observations in lab notebooks, MES systems, and databases.
• Follow cleanroom protocols, chemical handling procedures, and EHS requirements.
• Assist with material tracking, consumables management, inventory control, and tool scheduling.
• Support onboarding and training of new users as appropriate.

Manufacturing Operations Technician I

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills (Excel, Outlook).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a cleanroom environment.

Manufacturing Operations Technician II

• 3+ years of hands‑on semiconductor FAB experience.
• Experience with at least one 200 mm or 300 mm tool functional area.
• Ability to work effectively in a flexible development environment.

Manufacturing Operations Technician III

• 5+ years of hands‑on semiconductor FAB experience.
• Experience with at least two major semiconductor tool functional areas.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose root cause, and recommend solutions.

Senior Manufacturing Operations Technician

• 8+ years of semiconductor FAB experience.
• Broad expertise across multiple tool platforms and process areas.
• Ability to initiate lot starts, coordinate operations, and mentor junior staff.
• Proven ability to interface effectively with engineers, researchers, and leadership.

Technician I

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical field.
• Exposure to semiconductor manufacturing or cleanroom environments.
• 1+ year hands‑on semiconductor FAB experience.
• R&D or university FAB experience.

Technician II

• Experience with SPC, MES, or structured data systems.
• Experience with one or more semiconductor toolsets (etch, litho, deposition, cleans, metrology).
• R&D semiconductor manufacturing experience.
