Hill Country Conservancy (HCC) is a nonprofit land trust dedicated to protecting the water, wildlife, and wonder of the Texas Hill Country. We work collaboratively with landowners, public agencies, and community partners to conserve open spaces, build the Violet Crown Trail, and connect people with nature in lasting, meaningful ways.
HCC is seeking a creative and detail-oriented part-time Communications Associate to support the organization’s communications and outreach efforts. This position will be based in Austin, TX. The Communications Associate reports to HCC’s Senior Director of Community Engagement and is responsible for assisting with digital content creation, social media management, email marketing, website updates, and promotional support for events and programs. Working approximately 20 hours per week, the Communications Associate plays a key part in advancing HCC’s mission by helping share compelling stories, grow community engagement, and strengthen the organization’s brand presence across platforms.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary job responsibilities for this position center on the following (may be modified to include additional duties as assigned):
Digital Marketing (50%)- Draft, proof, and schedule content for social media & email newsletters.
- Help brainstorm fun, engaging content ideas that reflect HCC’s voice.
- Maintain a consistent posting calendar and help monitor engagement.
- Upload blogs, event pages, and updates via Word Press (training provided).
- Assist with basic digital graphic design needs, using existing templates.
- Help track analytics (social, website, email) and prepare monthly summary reports.
- Assist with marketing needs for events such as volunteer days, public events, and community programs.
- Capture photos or short video clips at events as needed.
- Support development and distribution of outreach materials (flyers, signage, handouts).
- Assist in distributing press releases quarterly.
- Help ensure all public-facing content aligns with HCC’s brand standards.
- Maintain and organize photo libraries, logos, and design assets.
- Assist in maintaining email lists and contact databases.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- At least 1 year of experience (paid or volunteer) in marketing, digital media, or related fields preferred.
- Basic knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Linked In) required. Experience contributing to or maintaining social media accounts for an organization, nonprofit, campus group, or business preferred.
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Illustrator/InDesign, and/or basic website or email marketing tools a plus.
- Highly organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple small tasks at once.
- Ability to work independently with guidance.
- $22/hour, part-time (around 20 hours per week), non-exempt position.
- Hybrid work option, with at least one day in-office per week required.
- Occasional weekend or evening work may be required for event support, especially in Spring and Fall.
