Job Description & How to Apply Below

Texas 2036 is one of the most ambitious public policy organizations in the country, and we’re looking for a Content & Communications Manager based in Austin who can help tell the story of Texas’ future.

This role is for someone who loves creating content, solving communications challenges, and bringing ideas to life visually. The right candidate can write, design, edit, publish, and produce, moving easily between them without missing a beat. One week you’re designing a report rollout campaign and drafting the press release. The next you’re building a landing page, producing social assets, and editing the newsletter, sometimes all at once.

We move quickly, tackle multiple projects simultaneously, and believe great communication is one of the most powerful tools for shaping a state’s future. In your first year, you might help launch a major water policy report, design materials for funders and stakeholders, and grow a newsletter that already reaches almost 50,000 readers, all while working steps from the Texas Capitol, embedded in the policy conversation that’s defining what Texas looks like at its bicentennial.

You’ll have real ownership over your work and a chance to shape how one of Texas’ leading policy organizations communicates with policymakers, media, donors, and the public.

The best candidate writes with speed and precision, designs with purpose, and is always looking for the clearest, smartest, and most compelling way to tell a story.

Responsibilities

The Content & Communications Manager’s responsibilities are varied by design. Core responsibilities include:

  • Write, edit, and produce content across formats, including newsletters, press releases, op-eds, issue briefs, speeches, website copy, and social media, with speed, accuracy, and voice.
  • Design and produce visual communications materials, including brochures, one-pagers, event handouts, social assets, and landing pages, that are polished, on-brand, and built to move an audience.
  • Translate complex policy and data research into compelling content for external audiences, including policymakers, media, stakeholders, donors and the public.
  • Support newsletter production in Mailchimp, manage and update website content in Word Press, and build landing pages for report and campaign launches.
  • Collaborate closely with policy and research colleagues to shape how Texas 2036’s work is presented, positioned, and amplified across channels.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and goals of Texas 2036
Qualifications

We’re looking for a strong communicator, creator, and producer who can bring ideas to life across multiple platforms and formats.

Strong candidates will have:

  • Demonstrated writing experience, with a portfolio that shows range, judgment, and the ability to adapt voice and style for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to design polished communications materials across print and digital platforms, with a portfolio that reflects strong visual judgment and attention to detail.
  • Experience with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Word Press, Mailchimp, or similar platforms.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work effectively under deadlines, and consistently produce high-quality work.
  • Strong editorial instincts and attention to detail, balanced with the ability to make decisions and keep projects moving.
  • Curiosity about Texas and a genuine interest in the public policy issues shaping the state’s future.
  • A problem-solving mindset, resourcefulness, and a willingness to learn new skills and tools, including AI-assisted content and design workflows.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across teams and disciplines.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

Texas 2036 knows some great candidates won’t have everything we’ve described above or may bring valuable skills we haven’t considered. When in doubt, apply and use your cover letter to tell us more.
