IN-OFFICE IN AUSTIN, TXWe're looking for a Vice President of Marketing to build and lead the marketing function responsible for generating demand, strengthening our brand, and turning our market position into measurable pipeline and revenue.
This is a builder's role
. You'll be responsible for creating the strategy, team, processes, and operating rhythm needed to scale the function. As the first internal hire in this role
, you'll have a unique opportunity to shape the marketing organization from the ground up, establish its foundation, and define what the function looks like as the company grows.
You'll partner closely with the sales, product, & technology teams on positioning, messaging, launches, and market intelligence, while owning how that strategy comes to life in the market and drives demand. The ideal leader will see this as a strength: a chance to partner with a strong product marketing function while owning the broader marketing engine.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Pipeline & Demand Generation
- Own the marketing-sourced pipeline target and the budget required to achieve it.
- Develop and optimize the channel strategy across paid media, SEO/content, events, partnerships, lifecycle, ABM, and other high-impact channels.
- Partner closely with Sales on lead quality, handoffs, SLAs, conversion, and shared pipeline accountability.
- Continuously evaluate channel performance and reallocate investment toward the highest-return opportunities.
- Translate product positioning and market insights into compelling campaigns, content, and creative that drive measurable results.
- Own the content strategy and marketing calendar.
- Lead the evolution of the company website into a high-performing conversion and demand-generation asset.
- Establish a culture of experimentation, testing, and continuous optimization.
- Build and optimize nurture, onboarding, expansion, and customer engagement programs.
- Partner with Customer Success to strengthen retention, expansion, advocacy, and reference programs.
- Develop programs that turn existing customers into a meaningful source of growth.
- Increase awareness, credibility, and relevance within [target market].
- Build the company's voice through content, PR, community, events, and thought leadership.
- Position [Company] as a leader in [category], not simply another vendor competing on features and price.
- Strengthen consistency across the customer journey and every major market touchpoint.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing marketing organization.
- Determine where to hire internally versus leverage agencies, contractors, or technology.
- Establish the marketing technology, operations, attribution, and reporting infrastructure needed to scale.
- Create clear dashboards and reporting that give executives and the board confidence in marketing performance and ROI.
- 8-12+ years of marketing experience, including 3+ years leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Proven experience scaling marketing through a meaningful stage of company growth, ideally [e.g., $10M to $50M ARR] or a comparable transition.
- Demonstrated ownership of a pipeline or revenue target - not solely brand awareness, content, or program execution.
- Strong understanding of the full marketing funnel, from brand and demand generation through conversion, lifecycle, and customer advocacy.
- Ability to move comfortably between strategy and execution - you can evaluate a paid media strategy, challenge a landing page, analyze funnel performance, and build an executive-level growth plan.
- A strong track record of partnering with Sales and creating genuine alignment around pipeline and revenue.
- Experience working effectively alongside a Product Marketing organization that you do not directly manage.
- Comfortable operating in a high-growth, evolving environment where priorities may change and not every process is already built.
- A hands-on leadership style with the willingness to get into the work when needed.
- Experience in background screening, pre-employment screening, HR technology, or related B2B services.
- Experience in SaaS, HR Technology, Compliance, or other regulated industries.
- Understanding of the HR and employment screening ecosystem and its key buyers and stakeholders.
- Experience building marketing strategies for complex B2B products and longer sales cycles.
- Experience supporting companies through rapid growth, private equity ownership, M&A, or organizational transformation.
- Experience using AI, marketing automation, CRM, and analytics to drive measurable results.
- Experience presenting marketing performance, pipeline,…
