The Grants Manager leads Workers Defense efforts in maintaining and growing foundation partnerships to support our work for worker and immigrant rights in Texas.

THE ROLE IN ACTION:
  • Develop and implement a grant-focused fundraising strategy for both Workers Defense Project and its affiliated 501(c)4 organization, Workers Defense Action Fund, and WDAF’s affiliated political organizations.
  • Lead all grants from start to finish, working with the Executive Director, Development Director and Grant Writer to:
    • Research foundations, unions, government funding opportunities, and other prospects.
    • Oversee the writing and timely submission of Letters of Intent and/or Grant Proposals for funding.
    • Manage grant compliance by keeping track of grant deliverables, monitoring progress on deliverables, and communicating evaluation requirements to program staff.
    • Maintain grants management systems and grant information in organization drive and database.
    • Effectively communicate with program officers about our work via emails and calls.
    • Work with the Operations team to develop budgets for grants.
    • Lead coordination with the Executive Director, Senior Leadership, members, and external allies to develop strategic grant proposals for potential funders, including occasional collaborative proposals that require partnering with external organizations.
  • Supervise the work of the Grant Writer to ensure successful completion of grants and other work.
  • Grow funder bases in Dallas, Houston, and Austin.
  • Support the planning and execution of the organization's large fundraiser (every five years) and other fundraising events and efforts.
  • Represent the organization to partner institutions and to the public.
  • Complete administrative functions including evaluations, plans, timesheets, etc.
  • Support cross-programmatic campaigns, actions, events and meetings.
  • Any other activities that are necessary to carry out the work of Workers Defense.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • Two to five years in fundraising experience
  • Two to five years in management experience
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail while managing multiple responsibilities
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, support and develop staff, interns, and volunteers and contribute to the success of a team
  • Commitment to Workers Defense identity as a member-led organization, and commitment to advancing immigrant and economic justice
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse audience
  • Availability to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people (including faith, labor, immigrant, and Latine and Black communities)
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with CiviCRM databases, Hustle, Signal a plus
  • Proficiency in computer skills and knowledge of standard office technology
  • Ability to do in-person work; going to the office, leading on in-person meetings with funders, conducting presentations or trainings at the office or other locations
