Purpose

TAMEST (Texas Academy of Medicine, Engineering, Science & Technology) is a nonprofit scientific research organization based in Austin, Texas. Our organization brings together the state’s brightest minds to foster collaboration and advance research, innovation and business in Texas. TAMEST is currently seeking an Associate Director of Events and Engagement to join our team. This meeting professional will manage the development and execution of our annual meeting and other events, support stewardship and engagement of TAMEST members and supporters, and provide operational support for our fundraising and development initiatives.

TAMEST is a well‑established scientific organization with broad and enthusiastic support, and this position provides several promising opportunities for additional growth and expansion. This position will report to the Executive Director and work in close collaboration with the full TAMEST team.

Responsibilities
  • Event and meeting management for TAMEST annual meeting (350-400 attendees, held each February), including management and coordination of venue, housing, audio‑visual, speakers and program, logistics, travel and vendors.
  • Event and meeting management of 1‑day fall summits. Work with TAMEST team to design and execute the summit. Additional meetings and event management for occasional lectures, board meetings, networking events and other receptions.
  • Management and operational support for solicitation of sponsor ships for annual conference and other meetings and events; stewardship of committed sponsors.
  • Operational support for stewardship of members and supporters, including assistance with communications and correspondence. Stewardship and strategic engagement of members and member institutions, including working with TAMEST team on outreach for annual membership dues. Operational support for annual member giving campaign.
  • Operational support for fundraising and development opportunities to fund and expand TAMEST programs and initiatives.
  • Tracking and reporting of event and fundraising metrics.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least five years of meetings and events management experience with a strong track record of success.
  • Familiarity with the scientific research enterprise in Texas, including major research universities, medical centers, industry and government.
  • Excellent communication abilities (verbal, written and personal) and talent for engaging high‑level leaders and administrators.
  • Strong critical and strategic thinking skills and ability to work well under pressure in an organized way with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a team environment and independently, ability to collaborate well.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification.
  • Experienced leadership of an event team.
  • Experience working with high‑level executives and university administrators in meetings and events management, particularly in the state of Texas.
  • Experience in the creation and execution of fundraising strategies, particularly event sponsor ships, preferably in an academic or non‑profit environment.
  • Experience in a Salesforce‑based constituent database.
  • Experience with Canva.
Salary Range

$65,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • This position is based in Austin.
  • Prolonged screen time and repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
  • Occasional travel for events and meetings will be required, including overnight and/or weekend work due to events. Flexibility and adaptability in schedule are essential.
  • Monday‑Friday, 8am – 5pm.
