Description
This is a part time administrative assistant position. The position reports to the Business Administrator.
Ministerial CharacterThe Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. Catherine of Siena which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St Catherine of Siena help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
EssentialJob Duties
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Catherine of Siena in both your professional and personal life.
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
- Greet and assist the Church Community with all concerns and refer individual matters to others for appropriate disposition.
- Organize the office and make it welcoming and hospitable for the entire Church Community.
- Type and word process documents as needed.
- Manage the registration of all members of the Church Community, including entry of all registration, sacramental and contribution data into the parish data system and maintenance of appropriate paper records.
- Manage the registration and ongoing compliance of all members of the Church Community into the Ethics and Ministry database (“EIM”) and maintain appropriate electronic and paper records including annual Diocesan audits.
- Design, create and disseminate graphically appealing electronic and printed media including bulletins, flyers, brochures, newsletters, posters and worship aids.
- Assist the Church Community with the scheduling of mass intentions and floral and candle donations.
- Maintain all parish registries and issue Sacramental certificates and notifications of parishes of baptism of completed Sacraments.
- Generally assist and support all Church Community ministries and organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional software applications.
- Physical demands: ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear and to climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; ability to see close and far, color, depth, peripheral and adjust focus; ability to push, lift and carry weights up to 30 pounds; ability to handle a varied work environment and an abundance of personalities and situations.
Education and Trainings
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited American university or equivalent in a foreign country.
Experience
- Two (2) years of related full time wage earning experience.
Language
- English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)
Catholic Requirement
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
- All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
- The Parish is an at-will employer.
- All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.
- Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
- Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required.
- Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
- Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
- May be required to use personal or parish vehicle to drive to off-site locations.
- Travelling within and outside the parish to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.
