Position: Administrative Student Intern (Voter Registration)

Part-Time Intern For Voter Registration Outreach Program

Travis County Voter Registration is seeking a part-time intern to assist with the voter registration outreach program. This position will promote voter registration across the county. Strengthen the relationship between the department and the public. Research potential opportunities to connect with voters via community events. Encourage civic engagement by offering volunteer opportunities with the department.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Research local organizations and businesses that could become potential partners or stakeholders.
• Create informational materials that describe the Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) Program to share with stakeholders.
• Brainstorm and implement volunteer recruitment techniques to reach new and returning volunteers.
• Conduct VDR follow-up discussions for feedback that can be used to solidify VDR toolkit and improve volunteer experience.
• Create VDR toolkit that acts as a starting point for new volunteers, encouraging them to take initiative for their own voter registration efforts.
• Help improve social media pages (Facebook group and possibly Instagram) with post ideas and photos.
• Research local events where we can potentially table and offer voter registration services. Includes finding event registration costs and recruiting volunteers.
• Participate in local community meetings to network with community leaders. Purpose is to build connections across diverse groups in Travis County.
• Manage other administrative tasks as they arise. Distinguishing Characteristics

Minimum Requirements

Preferred Education:

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs. Skill in:
• Superior time management skills
Attention to detail
• Ability to work independently
• Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
• Verbal and written communication
• Proficient in Microsoft Office

Work Environment & Other Information

Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 20-50 pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment. Subject to sitting, client/customer contact, standing, walking, vision to monitor, repetitive motion, stooping/kneeling, squatting, bending, and reaching to perform the essential functions.

Work Hours:

Monday-Friday 8 am - 5 pm

Part-time hybrid work schedule will be determined upon hiring.
