Community Stem Engagement Program Coordinator (Jackson School Of Geosciences)
The Environmental Science Institute at UT Austin seeks a Program Coordinator to advance community STEM engagement initiatives, including the Hot Science – Cool Talks series and its community resilience research network of Project CRESSLE.
Coordinate, advance, and promote ESI community STEM engagement programs; assist in proposal preparation for the continued support of ESI's community engagement programs; and provide administrative support for some ESI operations.
Responsibilities:
- Co-create and manage Hot Science – Cool Talks events, which are 6 unique science engagement events each year that engage the public in the excitement of scientific discovery. Responsibilities include presenter curation (choosing and working with dynamic leading researchers), venue coordination, stakeholder communication, registration management, promotional strategy, presentation and multimedia support, pre-event interactive fair planning, and onsite event logistics.
- Coordinate multimedia content development for Hot Science – Cool Talks and its developing TV show, Hot Science TV, including management and promotion of live streams and podcasts, and overseeing development of associated educational materials.
- Provide logistical support for fundraising efforts related to STEM communication and engagement initiatives, including fundraising campaigns and proposal preparation.
- Develop and strengthen existing connections with community partners to implement ESI's community engagement, including by participating in community events.
- Provide support for ESI operations, including setting weekly meeting agendas, tracking inventory, and work with JSG's financial office to distribute financial reports and information.
- Other related functions as assigned. Assist ESI Director as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in STEM or related field. Five years of experience administering a program, such as an event coordinator, outreach/community engagement coordinator, academic administrator, media specialist, or editor. Demonstrated ability to prioritize responsibilities, problem-solve, manage multiple concurrent projects, and meet deadlines. Highly detail-oriented with outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:
More than the required experience. A strong interest in STEM education, environmental science, and sustainability; experience in coordinating and leading a STEM learning activity; experience in graphic design, social media management, event planning, and conducting podcast interviews are all preferred. English/Spanish bilingual. Demonstrated record of leading or assisting with proposal preparation.
Salary Range:
$55,000 + depending on qualifications
Working Conditions:
- May work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Some travel to local communities.
- Lifting and moving.
- Schedule is standard office hours. In addition, Hot Science events are offered six times a year, typically on Friday nights from 5-9 p.m.
