Position: Disaster Benefits Team - Outreach Specialist (Temporary)
Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid (TRLA) is seeking Temporary Outreach Specialists to work less than 40 hours per week for up to four months with the Disaster Benefits Team.

The Temporary Outreach Specialists will engage community members in Travis, Burnet, Williamson, and/or Kerr Counties affected by the July floods to support the TRLA disaster benefits team’s goals. The Temporary Outreach Specialist will plan and execute outreach activities, including meeting virtually or in person with local stakeholders, representing TRLA at local events or presentations, and assisting in crafting advocacy efforts rooted in the lived experiences of impacted individuals.

Responsibilities include:

Conducting outreach in the field of Travis, Burnet, Williamson, and/or Kerr Counties to engage community members about challenges they are facing and how TRLA’s free legal assistance can help.

Scheduling meetings and making outreach calls and texts to community members to educate them about TRLA, inform them of meetings, and connect them to resources.

Assisting team or project management in targeting outreach efforts.

Facilitating workshops at properties, schools, community centers, and other community institutions in conjunction with a larger project or team.

Assisting with documenting and recording TRLA client stories.

Contemporaneously documenting all outreach activities to track outcomes and ensure compliance with funding requirements.

Gathering contact information of those identified in the field who are interested in an intake at a later time.

All other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Commitment to social, economic, racial, and language justice;

Previous outreach or community engagement experience;

Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish;

Ability to communicate complex concepts in plain language;

Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google equivalents;

Strong organizational skills;

Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

Ability to work evenings and weekends; and Vehicle and driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in disaster recovery, legal services, or community engagement;

Familiarity with small communities within Travis, Burnet, Williamson, and/or Kerr Counties;

Proficiency in additional languages often spoken or used by project or team constituents;

Experience with community education and popular education techniques;

Knowledge of project or team subject matter;

Experience with working in multilingual spaces; and Experience designing effective flyers and print materials with knowledge of Canva is a plus.
