Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, implement, oversee, and evaluate all private foundation and government fundraising activities across Area Command based on a formalized fund development program; assist in strengthening relationships with foundation representatives to increase engagement and assess potential giving opportunities.
  • Work closely with programs team and Grants and Contracts Specialists to develop relationships with government entities to secure government funding.
  • Collaborate with Grants Coordinator to strengthen relationships and steward gifts, overseeing the preparation of proposals and applications.
  • Partner with immediate supervisor or Area Command Officers to support campaign fundraising.
Essential Functions Supervisory Responsibilities (25%)
  • Direct selection, training, and supervision of all staff responsible for foundation giving and government grants; instruct and train employees in proper methods and procedures; monitor compliance with policies, procedures, standards, and regulations; conduct performance evaluations.
  • Administer, lead, plan, and supervise Foundation Giving and government grants to increase donor engagement and achieve fundraising goals.
  • Provide strong, effective, and highly visible leadership to the Foundation Giving and grants teams to maximize critical resources; ensure employees are motivated and empowered to identify innovative approaches.
  • Mentor and lead Grants Coordinator and Grants and Contracts Specialists staff to promote teamwork and employee engagement.
  • Supervise the expenditure of granted funds and submission of progress and final reports; work with the financial department to ensure proper monitoring and tracking of grant revenue and costs.
Strategic Planning and Evaluation Responsibilities (25%)
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of foundation giving and government grant strategies to achieve short- and long-range goals; communicate status and accomplishments to supervisors.
  • Lead a team to implement strategies and hold members accountable for meeting fundraising goals and metrics.
  • Develop, prepare, and monitor monthly reports illustrating progress against goals; review with team and share with supervisor.
  • Create and maintain an active grants calendar and cultivation/solicitation strategy to grow funding from foundations across Area Command.
  • Create and maintain an active government grants calendar and cultivation/solicitation strategy to grow funding from government entities across Area Command and at state/federal levels; ensure compliance and reporting.
  • Collaborate with other departments and Officers at Corps centers to identify budget-relieving funding opportunities and needs throughout Area Command.
Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship of Foundation Representatives and Government Entities (50%)
  • Develop and foster relationships with foundation funders, establishing connections with staff, board, volunteers, and donors.
  • Collaborate with programs teams to develop relationships with government entities, ensuring awareness of potential funding opportunities and alignment with Salvation Army programs.
  • Maintain donor management system, ensuring accurate and complete profiles for each donor and prospect; record contacts, relationships, activities, meeting notes, and giving histories.
  • Develop, establish, and maintain a list of foundation donors/prospects; respond to inquiries in an accurate, timely, and professional manner; evaluate day-to-day efforts to ensure goal achievement.
  • Actively use internal case statements and gift opportunities to provide accurate information and opportunities to donors.
  • Work with Grants Coordinator to develop letters, proposals, and reports for foundations.
  • Coordinate with Grants and Contracts Specialists, compliance, and finance teams to ensure grant reporting and invoicing are completed on time.
