SUMMARY

The Grant Writer is responsible for familiarizing themselves with Meals on Wheels Central Texas (MOWCTX) programs, goals, and financial needs in order to effectively write grants and reports in support of the organization’s needs. Duties include researching, identifying, and writing grants to support existing and planned program activities as well as collecting, analyzing, and reporting data. The Grant Writer also performs research on current foundation donors and prospective foundation donors to determine their giving history, proclivity, capability, and other information as needed for the Development team.

This position reports to the Director of Development and works closely with the Chief Advancement Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and other organizational leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from accredited university/college, or equivalent combination of education and experience (1 year of experience = 1 year of college) preferred.
  • Candidate has undergone coursework or training in grant proposal, business, or technical writing and/or has experience with meeting all guidelines required by granting sources and individuals or will complete coursework or training within six (6) months of hire.
  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to write clearly and concisely for strictly formatted funding and other applications and for a wide variety of audiences.
  • Able to compile research to supplement and support grants and other requests for assistance.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of application requirements of corporate and foundation donors.
  • Able to follow precise application guidelines and meet strict deadlines.
  • Able to deeply understand the programs and funding priorities of MOWCTX and equally able to articulate those programs and priorities to foundation donors.
  • Adept at conducting grant research and prospect research on foundations and institutions.
  • Able to manage quickly changing priorities and tasks.
  • Able to meet or exceed the reporting requirements of funders.
  • Team player to the point of inspiring those around you.
  • Demonstrate good judgment, confidentiality, tact, and poise at all times.
  • Self-starter driven by results.
  • Abides by the confidentiality and ethical rules of MOWCTX.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Proposal Development & Management

  • Write and submit high-quality grant applications for all MOWCTX programs and MOWCTX In-Home Care.
  • Manage the full grant lifecycle, including drafting narratives, compiling supporting documents, and reviewing grant contracts.
  • Coordinate with program staff to gather data and "success stories" to create compelling, person-centered narratives.
  • Ensure all pending proposals are maintained in the System of Record (Salesforce) from research through submittal.

Prospect Research & Strategy

  • Perform continuous research to identify new funding sources and maintain a pipeline of prospective foundation donors.
  • Analyze prospect information, including timelines, application due dates, and specific funder requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records in the Salesforce donor database to track prospect status and history.

Stewardship & Compliance

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to funders, maintaining compliance with all grant requirements.
  • Manage grant stewardship through personalized thank-you letters and funder recognition efforts.
  • Abide by the ethical rules of the organization and maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive donor data.
  • Ensure grants are entered into the Salesforce database and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Partner with the Director of Development, Chief Advancement Officer, and other Executive Leadership of the organization to ensure relationships are developed and cultivated between Meals on Wheels Central Texas and the funders.

Organizational Support

  • Represent organization at fundraising events, workplace fairs and other miscellaneous events, occasionally working outside of normal business hours.
