Compensation

Living Allowance of $3,300.00; paid out biweekly ($188.57)

Education Award of $1,565.08; earned at the end of term.

Note:

This is a LIMITED TERM Ameri Corps Position consisting of 12 hours a week with a total service commitment of 300 hours.

About the Job

We need you to fill the role of Ameri Corps Community Support & Engagement Member
. Shalom Austin is the hub of Jewish life in Central Texas, providing programs, services, and resources that connect, empower, and support the community. Jewish Family Service (JFS) is the social service branch of Shalom Austin, offering dignified and compassionate support to individuals and families across the Austin area. This is a part-time position and this location requires a total service commitment of 300 hours (approximately 12 hours per week).

Please note this position will begin on September 14th and run through May 14th 2027.

The Community Support & Engagement Assistants will support programs that promote understanding, inclusion, and meaningful connections among diverse groups in the Austin community. The Ameri Corps Member will help coordinate educational experiences that increase understanding of Jewish history, culture, traditions, and community life through educational and cultural programming.

A key focus of this role is supporting opportunities for Jewish teens and community members to share their lived experiences with Jewish and non-Jewish peers, helping to build understanding, reduce misconceptions, and strengthen community relationships.

In addition, the Ameri Corps Members will support Shalom Austin’s disability and inclusion initiatives, including the RAISE employment program, by assisting with employment and social skills support for RAISE employees.

You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:

Educational & Disability/Inclusion Program Support

  • Assist with planning and facilitating cultural and educational programs, workshops, and presentations.
  • Support interactive learning experiences that increase understanding of Jewish traditions, history, and contemporary Jewish life.
  • Help prepare educational materials, presentations, and participant resources.
  • Maintain attendance records and program data that support educational programming and participant engagement.
  • Assist with scheduling, logistics, and event coordination.
  • Help gather participant feedback and track program outcomes.
  • Support the RAISE employment program for adults with disabilities through volunteer engagement, program coordination, and job coaching.
  • Help coordinate training materials and ongoing support for job coaches.

Teen & Community Engagement

  • Support programs that engage Jewish teens as educators, storytellers, and community ambassadors.
  • Assist with coordinating school visits, community presentations, and dialogue-based programs.
  • Help create welcoming opportunities for participants from diverse backgrounds to learn from one another.

Outreach & Relationship Building

  • Assist with outreach to schools, community organizations, and partner agencies.
  • Support communication with participants, educators, and community partners.
  • Help recruit participants and promote educational opportunities.

Resource Development

  • Create and organize educational materials, discussion guides, and cultural learning resources.
  • Support the development of content related to Jewish identity, inclusion, disability awareness, and community engagement.
  • Help maintain resource libraries and digital program materials.
