The Austin Public School District is seeking to hire RN/LPN substitutes. APS is a world‑class public school system located in Austin, MN. We employ over 800 full‑ and part‑time employees and serve over 5,000 students from diverse backgrounds.
This is an on‑call, as‑needed position in the absence of the building nurse. Applications are accepted throughout the year, and assignment lengths will vary. The substitute Building Nurse provides care within the school setting, including administering medications, providing first aid services, and maintaining health records under the direction of the Supervisor of School Health Services.
Position Detail- Provide direct nursing care to students and staff, including administering prescribed medication and treatments, providing counsel related to medications, and taking vital signs as needed.
- Perform necessary first aid duties, interpret and apply guidelines, recognize problems, and recommend solutions in accordance with RN/LPN licensing and school protocol.
- Collect and interpret data on student health needs, and provide care based on protocols and plans of care established by the Coordinator of Health Services.
- Monitor and report communicable conditions and changes in student or staff health within the school setting to the Coordinator of Health Services.
- Organize and/or participate in health screening processes as requested by the Coordinator of Health Services.
- Observe, record, and document health office information, including student and staff visits, medication administration, controlled substance counts, immunizations, attendance issues, current health conditions, screening summaries, monthly reports, and other data assigned by supervisors.
- Maintain health supply inventory.
- Ensure blood‑borne pathogen protocol is met within the Health Service Office.
- Conduct vision and hearing screening, end screening referrals, and communicate with parents/guardians per protocols.
Position requires a high school diploma; completion of an accredited nursing program and Minnesota RN or LPN licensure; and certification in CPR and basic First Aid.
Salary$20.00 per hour
