Acute Care RN - Job Title: Nurseql - Acute Care RN
- Job Description: The Acute 당시 Nurse performs complex nursing work providing assessment, care and treatment to individuals in a State Supported Living Center (SSLC) setting. The role includes assessing, treating, documenting health care needs, coordinating with interdisciplinary team members, and ensuring high quality, safe care for all residents. The position may also serve in an on‑call or rotating shift and may be eligible for additional pay during evenings, nights, weekends or during maximum security locations.
Job Functions
- Attend work regularly and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or rotating schedule, extended shift or overtime as per agency leave policy.
- Perform complex and technical nursing tasks including tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/jejunostomy care, wound care, and breathing treatments.
- Collect specimens, conduct screenings and coordinate with laboratory personnel.
- Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments; observe for adverse reactions.
- Make rounds, perform home visits, and maintain vital signs, weight, diet, and feeding records.
- Implement acute care plans and evaluate nursing intervention outcomes.
- Document and report treatments and observations accurately in electronic or paper medical records.
- Serve as a preceptor for new nurses; train LVNs and RN I per the Nurse Practice Act.
- Collaborate with the Infection Control nurse, Quality Assurance nurse, and other staff on protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
- Respond to emergency situations and provide safety training to SSLC staff.
- Assist in maintaining controlled drug counts, medication counts, emergency checklist logs, refrigerator temperature logs, and glucose controls.
- Participate in disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation as required.
- Knowledge of nursing techniques, healthcare laws, medical diagnoses, community health, and nursing care principles.
- Knowledge of Republik and federal regulations for state-supported living centers.
- Ability to provide patient care, maintain records, interpret policies, and recognize medical necessity treatments.
- Proficiency with computer/software and electronic health record systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to interact appropriately with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, families, and staff.
- Ability to work independently and with all staff levels.
- Skill in training staff and making recommendations to SSLC leadership, including on‑call administrators.
- Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas or a state with reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Experience as a practicing RN – required. Preferred: 2 years.
- At least 1 year of experience in a health agency, hospital, or health‑care facility – preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree – preferred.
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and LEIE.
- Males 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service.
- All SSLC employees are subject to random drug testing.
- Flexible work hours may be required. The position may require overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Males 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service; all applicants must be at least 18 years old.
This position may not be eligible for telework. All HHS positions are subject to state and agency telework policies based on supervisor discretion and business needs.
