TitleNursing Consultant for APRN Licensure (4242) B24
DefinitionPerforms consultative and administrative work for the Board of Nursing. Works under the direction of the APRN Licensing Manager to: assist with the operations of all APRN processes including the application process for advanced practice registered nurses including but not limited to reviewing and approving educational credentials and preparation for entry into advanced practice for applicants; assist in interpreting applicable laws and rules to the public, nurses, and educators;
develop, implement, and evaluate rules, policies, and procedures related to advanced practice registered nurses and APRN education; collaborate to support the development, implementation and evaluation of rules, policies, and procedures related to APRN education. May participate as a speaker in workshops; assist the Nursing Consultants for Practice as directed by the supervisor; and serve as liaison to professional organizations and groups with interests in advanced practice nursing and education.
Works under minimum supervision with latitude for use of initiative and judgment.
Assists the Manager for APRN Licensure and Directors with establishing a culture of teamwork, collaboration and support within the Agency. Contributes to agency goals and objectives and adheres to agency ethics and personnel policies.
Qualifications- Education
- Graduate of a professional nursing program approved or accredited by the state in which the program was conducted.
- Graduate of an accredited college or university with an earned master's degree in nursing.
- APRN licensure preferred but not required.
- Experience
- Broad clinical experience in various types of professional nursing positions.

Within the previous five (5) years from date of applying, have either three (3) years of experience in teaching in a professional or graduate nursing education program or three (3) years of experience of clinical practice as an advanced practice registered nurse. - Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities - Basic knowledge of state laws relating to the practice of professional nursing, especially the Nursing Practice Act and the Rules and Regulations Relating to Nurse Education, Licensure, and Practice.
- Basic knowledge of the role and functions of the Texas Board of Nursing in the regulation of nursing and advanced practice nursing.
- General knowledge of the diverse conceptualizations of nursing as a profession.
- Knowledge of professional and advanced practice nursing, the current issues, and the role of nurses at all levels of licensure in the current health care delivery system.
- General knowledge of professional nursing or advanced practice registered nursing curricula and accreditation processes.
- Articulate speaker; effective presentation delivery skills to both large and small audiences.
- Ability to adapt adult learner taxonomy level of presentation to the audience at hand.
- Critical thinking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well with others.
