Responsibilities
Texas Neuro Rehab Center is currently accepting applicants for a Charge Nurse (RN). This candidate will assist the Director of Nursing with the administrative and clinical responsibility for nursing services on the LTAC unit. Supervises and provides direct patient care, nursing management, assessment, and crisis management. Provide leadership and effective role modeling for unit staff. Ensure environmental safety and crisis management for the patient population.
Make patient & task assignments to nursing staff and monitor the performance of duties. Oversee new employee orientation to the unit for prn, float, & agency staff. Provide training and education to staff, patients, and families. Document and oversee the nursing documentation of patient care. Ensure administrative data, e.g. admissions, discharges, shift census reports, transporting patients, is accurate and complete.
Supervise all staff assigned to the shift.
Texas Neuro Rehab Center is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres.

The following are the job requirements for the Charge Nurse position.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities- Thorough knowledge of rehabilitation, medical/surgical, brain injury.
- Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnoses, and interventions with patients.
- Knowledge of milieu management.
- Ability to accurately administer medication and monitor side‑effects.
- Ability to direct subordinates in the performance of their duties.
- Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation.
- Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Understanding of management principles.
- Able to evaluate other staff using the criteria in their job description.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
Licensure/CertificationCurrent Driver’s License or State issued State of Texas Registered Nurse License, Current CPR certification. CRRN or RN, C preferred.
ExperienceOne year of inpatient rehabilitation, medical surgical, or brain injury experience preferred. One year of progressive experience in management and/or supervision. Experience in evaluating staff against the criteria in their job description preferred.
Physical/General RequirementsAble to lift, carry, and lower 50 pounds without assistance.
Able to push patients in wheel chairs up and down hills and pursue running patients.
Able to transfer patients to and from wheel chairs, beds, toilets, and vehicles.
Verbal skills to deescalate a crisis situation.
Able to physically restrain patients by individual or team restraint per policy.
Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
Writing skills to include legibility and correct grammar to convey patient behavior and other information in the patient chart.
Able to use a computer and/or write for extended periods of time.
Hearing, vision, and emotional stability sufficient to perform essential job functions and to deal with changing priorities.
Able to communicate in writing and verbally and to speak clearly such that others can understand.
Able to use the phone for extended periods of time.
